Overview

The Melbourne University Football Club (MUFC), established in 1859, is one of the oldest and most prestigious Australian Rules football clubs in the country. With a rich history in both the VFL and amateur football, MUFC is committed to advancing the physical and mental performance of its athletes. As we continue to push the boundaries in player development and sport science, we are offering an exciting internship opportunity for a Sport Science Intern to support the performance programs of our teams.

This internship provides the chance to work alongside experienced professionals in sport science, strength & conditioning, and sports medicine, offering you hands-on experience in a competitive sporting environment.

Position

You will work closely with the coaching, strength & conditioning, and medical staff to help track, assess, and improve athlete performance both on and off the field. • Data Collection & Analysis: Assist in collecting and processing performance data, including GPS data, and contribute to the preparation of reports and presentations for athletes and coaching staff.
  • Performance Support: Aid in delivering training programs, including warm-ups, cool-downs, and recovery protocols. Monitor and evaluate athlete performance during training and matches.
  • Strength & Conditioning: Assist with strength and conditioning sessions, ensuring athletes follow prescribed programs. Help with setup, supervision, and breakdown of equipment.
  • Sports Medicine Collaboration: Work closely with medical staff to monitor athlete health, wellness, and injury prevention. Provide support for rehabilitation protocols.
  • Other Duties: Contribute to the smooth running of performance and training sessions, assisting with any other tasks required by the football department.

Essential Skills

  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proactive attitude and willingness to learn in a dynamic sporting environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
