About the Role
Sydney Grammar School is seeking to employ a highly motivated and qualified Lead Athletic Development Coach within the School’s Sports Department. This is a casual position consisting of approximately 25 hours a week.
This is a rare opportunity to lead the Rehabilitation and Basketball Strength and Conditioning program for boys at Sydney Grammar School. The successful candidate will also contribute to a dynamic athletic development program supporting a wide range of sports, including rugby, football, basketball, athletics, cricket, rowing, tennis and volleyball, across both field and gym settings. Reporting to the Director of Athletic Development, you will play a key role in delivering structured physical performance programmes and fostering a culture of high performance and holistic athlete development.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead the delivery, planning and supervision of all Return to Play programmes in conjunction with external medical providers and the Director of Athletic Development.
• Manage the Lumin Arc AMS data in conjunction with external medical providers.
• Lead the delivery and reporting for the Return from Concussion Plan (RCP). Supervise all boys through the Concussion Graduated Return to Play programme.
• Develop and implement sport specific and individualised programs for SGS Opens basketballers.
• In conjunction with the Firsts Basketball Coach, plan and deliver all on court conditioning for the Firsts and Seconds basketball teams.
• Deliver athlete tracking, load monitoring and reporting support for basketball and rehabilitation.
• Use technology such as VBT and GPS to improve athletic performance, RTP results and development in basketball and rehabilitation.
• Supervision of the Weights Room to foster the athletic development of all boys in line with the SGS LTAD model.
• Contribute to a safe, inclusive and motivating training environment
Minimum Requirements
• ASCA Level 2 accreditation (or equivalent);
• Bachelor’s degree in Exercise and Sports Science or related field;
• Current First Aid and CPR certification;
• NSW Working with Children Check;
• A legal right to work in Australia.
Desirable Skills and Experience
• Experience coaching youth athletes in school or sporting environments;
• Experience prescribing and coaching Return to Play programmes for injured athletes.
• Familiarity with GPS systems (e.g. Catapult), VBT tools (e.g. Perch), and athlete management systems (e.g. Lumin Arc), Teambuildr and Vald (e.g. ForceDecks & ForceFrame);
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; and
• A sound understanding of long-term athlete development principles

The successful applicant will be legally permitted to work in Australia and accredited with ASCA Level 2 or higher (or an equivalent qualification), along with a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise and Sports Science or a related field.
