Role Purpose

As Senior Project Manager you will lead the procurement, construction and commissioning of major sport and recreation facilities on behalf of Waypoint’s clients. You’ll act as the client’s representative managing complex capital projects from delivery phase through to handover. The role requires commercial acumen, construction/technical knowledge and strong leadership across all stages of delivery.

This is a hands-on role where you’ll work with contractors, consultants and stakeholders to ensure successful outcomes for facilities that support participation from grassroots sport through to elite training and administration.

Key Responsibilities

Project Delivery

  • Lead the delivery of assigned capital works projects from procurement through construction and handover.
  • Manage project scope, schedule, budget, and quality to meet contractual obligations and performance targets.
  • Oversee procurement, tender evaluation and contract award processes.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, building codes, and safety requirements.
  • Lead project reporting, governance and performance monitoring.

Contract & Commercial Management

  • Act as the client’s representative and superintendent under the contracts.
  • Issue directions and assess extensions of time, variations and claims.
  • Manage risk, change control and project contingencies.
  • Review contractor programs, progress claims and cashflow forecasts.
  • Lead facility commissioning, practical completion, defects management and close-out processes.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Liaise with clients, councils, funding bodies, consultants and contractors.
  • Coordinate internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment on objectives and delivery milestones.
  • Represent Waypoint in project meetings, presentations and external forums.
  • Maintain strong communication channels and transparent decision-making.

Leadership & Team Contribution

  • Provide guidance to contractors, consultants and stakeholders supporting delivery activities.
  • Contribute to Waypoint’s continuous improvement and project delivery framework.
  • Support the growth of Waypoint’s project management capability.

Key Outcomes

  • Projects delivered on time, on budget and to the required quality standards.
  • Contracts administered professionally and in compliance with relevant frameworks.
  • Effective stakeholder engagement resulting in positive client feedback.
  • Enhancement of Waypoint’s reputation for excellence in project delivery.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 7+ years’ experience in building or infrastructure project management (client-side and project leadership backgrounds highly regarded).
  • Demonstrated success leading complex construction projects through procurement and delivery.
  • Strong understanding of contract administration, risk management and project governance.
  • Tertiary qualification in project management, construction management, engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Familiarity with Australian Standard contracts (e.g. AS4000, AS4902).
  • Desirable but not essential: experience delivering sport, recreation or community facilities delivery.
