Description

  • Full-time, senior leadership role

NSW Athletics is experiencing a period of strong growth and renewed momentum, driven by the success of the NSW Athletics Partnership. Through closer collaboration between Athletics NSW and Little Athletics NSW, the sport has delivered a more connected and contemporary athletics experience across the state, including aligned competition pathways, streamlined systems, and expanded opportunities for participants of all ages and abilities.

We are now seeking an experienced and values-driven General Manager - Sport Delivery to lead the delivery of athletics across NSW at a pivotal moment for the sport.

This is a senior executive role with responsibility for ensuring safe, high-quality, and consistent sport delivery across state, regional, zone, specialist, out-of-stadia, and school-based competitions supporting over 50,000 participants and more than 220 clubs and centres statewide.

About the Role

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the General Manager - Sport Delivery is accountable for:

  • Strategic leadership of NSW Athletics’ competition and event delivery framework
  • Oversight of the full competition calendar, including state, regional, zone, pathway and specialist events
  • Operational excellence across venues, workforce, officials, risk management, and event standards
  • Leadership of a multidisciplinary Sport Delivery team (operations, competition, technology, workforce and School Carnival program)
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration with Community, Performance & Pathways, Marketing & Communications and Corporate Functional Areas.

This role plays a critical part in delivering a seamless athlete and participant journey, embedding consistency and professionalism across the NSW Athletics system, and supporting continued participation growth.

About You

You are a highly capable sport leader with experience managing complex event delivery environments. You bring:

  • Senior leadership experience in sport operations, competition delivery, or large-scale event environments
  • Strong understanding of competition pathways, workforce systems, and technical standards
  • Proven ability to lead teams, manage risk, and deliver consistent outcomes across multiple stakeholders
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
  • A collaborative, solutions-focused leadership style aligned with values-driven organisations

Experience in athletics or a comparable multi-discipline sport, and familiarity with sport technology platforms, is highly regarded but not essential.

Why Join NSW Athletics?

There has never been a more exciting time to be involved with athletics in New South Wales. NSW Athletics is undergoing a once-in-a-generation transformation redefining how athletics is delivered from schools and community participation through to elite performance. This role sits at the centre of that evolution, with the opportunity to directly shape the future competition and event delivery model of the sport.

You will join a purpose-driven organisation with strong momentum, a committed and experienced team, and a clear strategic direction. The role offers meaningful influence, broad scope, and the chance to leave a lasting legacy across one of Australia’s largest and most diverse sporting communities delivering impact not just for athletes, but for clubs, officials, schools, and volunteers across NSW.
