Organisational Overview

The NSW Athletics Partnership (NSWAP) entails Little Athletics NSW (LANSW) and Athletics NSW (ANSW) delivering the first entirely unified and single Athletics offering in NSW in 56 years and has three main components:

  • A single Affiliation structure
  • A single Membership offering
  • A single Championship and Events pathway.

NSW Athletics is experiencing a period of strong growth and renewed momentum, driven by the success of the NSW Athletics Partnership. Through closer collaboration across the sport, NSW Athletics has delivered more connected participation pathways, streamlined membership systems, and stronger engagement with clubs, centres, volunteers, and families across the state.

Position Overview:

NSW Athletics employs six (6) Development Officers across NSW, each with a defined geographic area of responsibility.  The Development Officer provides the direct local contact for NSW Athletics within the respective geographic areas.  The key responsibilities of the role are to foster a strong system of clubs throughout the state, build community and school connections and promote Athletics with the key aim of growing participation.

The role will also promote collaboration between and clubs and support the Zone Coordinators and Committees.  This role will also support identification and pathways for coaches, officials and volunteers within the defined jurisdiction. 

This role will require frequent travel throughout NSW and will require some out of office hours work.

Key Responsibilities

Club Support

  • Establish relationships with club committees and other key stakeholders.
  • Provide support and advice to committees into best practice operations to ensure they remain financially viable and sustainable.
  • Maintain a register on the status and viability of all clubs within the defined geographic area.
  • Deliver initiatives that drive improvements in the capability of clubs.
  • Providing advice and assistance regarding best practice running of club programs and competitions.
  • Provide support to clubs and oversee compliance with Sport Integrity Policies (including Child Protection policies) and Working with Children Check obligations.

Zone & Region Support

  • Provide support to Zone Coordinators, Zone Committees and Region Committees.
  • Where possible, attend Zone Committee meetings.
  • Deliver initiatives within Zones and Regions that promote the sharing of good practice and cross-club engagement.
  • Support the delivery of Zone and Region Championships

Coaches, Officials & Volunteers

  • Assist clubs and Zones in identifying individuals to support pathways into coaching, officiating and volunteering.
  • Provide guidance to new coaches, officials and volunteers on opportunities for education and participation.
  • Provide assistance in allowing new coaches and officials to access education.
  • Look for development opportunities for coaches, officials and volunteers at local competitions as relevant

School & Community Engagement

  • Develop relationships with local schools and drive participation in NSW Athletics Schools programs.
  • Build connections between school programs and local clubs
  • Maintain a network of coaches to support school and community engagement programs.

Other

  • Attend, support and contribute to the delivery of NSW Athletics events as required.
  • Support other whole of organization sport initiatives as directed.
  • Other duties as required by the Club Support Manager or CEO from time to time.

Person Specifications and Key Selection Criteria

Essential Criteria

Qualifications & Certifications

  • A valid current Senior First Aid Certificate
  • A valid current NSW Working With Children Check (for employees)
  • Current Drivers Licence

Experience, Knowledge and Skills

  • A strong understanding and involvement with administration, process and planning.
  • An understanding of the sporting landscape and an appreciation of athletics.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Understand the local community and be able to communicate local needs and issues
  • The ability to think strategically to determine the best use of your time
  • Highly self-motivated, pro-active and able to operate remotely with minimal day to day supervision, whilst still collaborating with stakeholders via various platforms
  • The ability to problem-solve and have a solution focus to issues as they arise
  • Be able to establish strong relationships within a broad range of community groups in the regional area
  • Have the ability to effectively develop and manage initiatives and projects
  • Have the confidence to speak and present to audiences
