The Australian Flying Disc Association (AFDA) is seeking an authentic and contemporary leader to guide the next chapter of growth for flying disc sports across Australia.
As Chief Executive Officer, you will lead the strategic direction, operational performance and organisational development of the national sporting organisation responsible for Ultimate and Disc Golf.
Working closely with the Board, Member Organisations and the broader flying disc community, you will play a defining role in strengthening participation, building sustainable pathways and elevating the national profile of the sport.

About the Australian Flying Disc Association
The Australian Flying Disc Association (AFDA) is the recognised national sporting organisation responsible for flying disc sports in Australia, including Ultimate and Disc Golf.
Working in partnership with its Member Organisations, AFDA leads the planning, coordination and delivery of participation programs, pathway development and national team initiatives across the country.
AFDA supports approximately 7,000 participants nationwide and oversees a framework of events leading to national championships and Team Australia representation at World Flying Disc Federation events.
Supported by the Australian Sports Commission as the sport’s national governing body, AFDA plays a central role in strengthening the sport’s visibility, sustainability and long-term growth across Australia.

The Opportunity
The Chief Executive Officer is responsible for leading the strategic direction, operational performance and organisational growth of AFDA.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO will provide leadership across strategy, participation growth, organisational capability and national stakeholder engagement.
Operating within a lean national organisation, the CEO will combine strategic leadership with hands-on operational delivery, ensuring the organisation maintains strong momentum and progress across its priorities.
Central to the role is building authentic relationships across the flying disc community, including Member Organisations, volunteers, athletes, clubs and partners. The CEO will serve as a visible and connected leader who understands the importance of community engagement in strengthening the sport nationally.
You will play a key role in positioning AFDA for continued growth by strengthening participation initiatives, developing sustainable pathways and building organisational capability.
Appointment to this role is subject to relevant screening checks in line with AFDA’s Child Safe and governance policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and delivery of AFDA’s strategic priorities, ensuring sustainable growth in participation, pathways and national team programs.
- Provide leadership to a small national team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration and shared purpose.
- Build trusted relationships across the flying disc community, including Member Organisations, clubs, volunteers, athletes and officials.
- Represent AFDA across the Australian sport system, working closely with the Australian Sports Commission, government partners and international federations.
- Support the continued development of participation programs and athlete pathways across grassroots and national representation environments.
- Ensure strong governance, integrity and compliance aligned with national sport governance and integrity frameworks.
- Lead financial and operational management of the organisation, including budgeting, revenue generation and organisational sustainability.

You are a contemporary leader who combines strategic capability with strong relationship building and operational leadership.
You bring:
- Demonstrated senior leadership experience within sport, community or member-based organisations.
- Experience working closely with Boards and governance structures.
- Strong stakeholder engagement capability and the ability to build trusted relationships across diverse communities.
- Proven ability to lead organisational growth and strategic delivery.
- Strong financial, operational and commercial management capability.
- A leadership style characterised by authenticity, humility and a genuine commitment to community engagement.
- Experience within the Australian sport system or comparable environments will be highly regarded.
Location
AFDA operates as a nationally distributed organisation with a fully remote workforce.
The Chief Executive Officer may be based anywhere on the East Coast of Australia, with regular national travel required to engage with Member Organisations, athletes, volunteers and key stakeholders.
