Description

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is responsible for leading the day-to-day operations of the Perth Basketball Association and translating the Board’s strategic vision into high-impact operational reality. The role requires strong governance, disciplined execution, and hands-on leadership to deliver meaningful outcomes for the Association and its community.

As the public face of the PBA, the CEO navigates complex stakeholder environments, secures the Association’s physical and financial future, and fosters a high-performance culture that balances commercial rigour with grassroots community values.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The CEO is expected to lead from the front, maintaining close involvement in the day-to-day operations of the Association while driving strategic outcomes.

1. Participation & Competition

  • Strategic & Operational Leadership: Lead the execution of scalable programs in schools and communities designed to convert new participants into dedicated club members.
  • System Innovation: Drive the modernization of recruitment and placement systems to streamline the transition from community programs to domestic clubs.
  • Operational Excellence: Ensure the delivery of high-quality domestic and WABL competitions that prioritize member satisfaction, safety, and adherence to governing body guidelines.

2. Development & Performance

  • Talent Pipeline: Ensure the implementation of a robust Player and Coach Development Framework that provides clear pathways for all levels of the association.
  • Pathway Connectivity: Formalize and promote a visible, connected pathway from WABL junior ranks through to the NBL1 program.
  • High-Performance Culture: Foster a culture of on-court excellence and professional game-day delivery while ensuring elite programs remain financially sustainable and community-focused.

3. Commercial & Facilities

  • Revenue Strategy: Proactively secure and grow strategic partnerships and diversified revenue streams to ensure long-term financial sovereignty.
  • Brand & Advocacy: Leverage the Perth Redbacks brand to increase visibility and lead high-level negotiations with Local, State, and Federal authorities to secure a permanent home facility.
  • Network Leadership: Lead the PBA Business Network and high-value events to engage the community and create new commercial opportunities.

4. Governance & Operations

  • Strategic Direction: Work closely with the Board to maintain effective governance, professional board reporting, and a clear strategic trajectory.
  • Staff & Fiscal Management: Lead a high-performing staff team through regular professional development and maintain transparent, disciplined budget and variance processes.
  • Innovation & Wellbeing: Drive operational efficiency through the integration of emerging technologies (AI) while prioritizing the holistic well-being of all members and volunteers.
