The Finance Manager at League Ahead Ltd plays a critical role in maintaining the organisation’s financial integrity, compliance, and operational excellence. Working in a fast-paced, purpose-driven environment, the role is responsible for delivering both operational finance and management-level financial insights, including preparing and contributing to Board reporting and discussions.
This position requires strong professional services discipline, combined with the agility to operate in a dynamic sporting organisation where timely, accurate financial information is essential to supporting programs, partners, and stakeholders.
The role is for part-time (22 hours per week) with flexibility around which days and hours. There will also be flexibility to work-from-home for one of these days. Our office is in Narrabeen, NSW.
Key Responsibilities
1. Monthly Financial Reporting
- Prepare accurate and timely monthly financial accounts in accordance with internal reporting policies.
- Collaborate closely with the Management Team to ensure financial results are correct, aligned to operational activity, and meaningful for decision making.
- Attend monthly meetings with the CEO to review draft results.
- Finalise and distribute monthly financial reporting packs following each month end review.
2. Payroll & Superannuation Management
- Process fortnightly and monthly payroll with precision and confidentiality.
- Finalise payroll cycles and complete relevant Single Touch Payroll (STP) submissions.
- Assist internal staff with payroll queries in a responsive, service-oriented manner.
- Prepare and process statutory superannuation obligations (quarterly).
- Coordinate annual Workers Compensation policy renewals.
- Manage contractor payments, ensuring compliance with internal policies and ATO requirements.
3. ATO Compliance & Statutory Lodgements
- Prepare and lodge monthly IAS reconciliations.
- Prepare and lodge quarterly BAS statements to strict deadlines.
- Support preparation of annual PAYG Payment Summaries and ensure timely STP year-end filings.
- Knowledge of Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) legislation and reporting requirements.
- Preparation and submission of income tax returns.
4. Financial Management & Accounts Payable Oversight
- Receive and process all supplier invoices, ensuring accuracy in coding and correct allocation within financial systems.
- Maintain and reconcile the aged creditors and debtor’s ledger, escalating outstanding issues to the management team.
- Prepare creditor payment runs through online banking platforms (with final approval by internal approvers).
- Complete weekly bank reconciliations to maintain up-to-date cashflow visibility.
5. CEO Support Services
- Contribute to monthly management report packs including actual vs budget (monthly and YTD), forecast cashflow, and strategic commentary.
- Prepare Board-level financial reporting, insights, and commentary, and attend Board meetings as required to support financial discussion and decision-making.
- Support the development of the annual budget, ensuring alignment to organisational goals, operational plans, and management reporting requirements.
- Ensure accounting records are processed and maintained accurately across all systems.
- Support timely reconciliation of balance sheet accounts (weekly/monthly).
- Ensure BAS/IAS obligations remain compliant and deadlines are consistently met.
- Prepare end-of-year financial reports in accordance with Australian Accounting Standards
- Assist with the year end audit processes.
Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.
- CPA qualification required.
- Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in an accounting role with responsibility for month-end reporting, compliance, and management reporting.
- Strong working knowledge of Australian taxation, payroll legislation, STP reporting, IAS/BAS obligations, and Workers Compensation.
- Advanced proficiency using Xero accounting software and online banking platforms.
- Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and organisational skills.
- Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
