The Purpose of the Northern Football Netball League (NFNL) is to provide a safe and inclusive environment for all people of our community to participate in professionally administered and high-level sporting activities. Our values are: Belonging, Respectful, Accountability and Integrity.
Each season the league conducts in excess of 4,000 matches, involving 368 football teams, 105 netball teams and over 10,000 registered players
The Umpiring Manager works in conjunction with the General Manager - Football Operations and CEO to oversee football umpire recruitment, administration and development for the NFNL. The Umpiring Manager assumes overall responsibility for the day-to-day management of the NFNL Umpiring Program including policies, procedures and manuals, while managing the Umpiring budget in consultation with the General Manager - Operations.
Responsibilities include:
Coaching
Oversee training sessions, including rules, rule interpretation and skills for Umpires
Oversee appointments for Goal, Boundary and Field Umpires
Be actively involved in all Umpiring coaching programs
Provide instruction by way of coaching sessions or other educational forums to Umpires as part of their sessions where required
Assist with inquiries related to the Officials HQ appointments system
Create and maintain an enjoyable culture to assist in the retention of existing Umpires
Be approachable and available by listening to Umpire issues and providing guidance
Liaise with Club Coaches, Club Football Directors and President’s regarding meaningful/constructive concerns they may have
Oversee the selection and appointment of all Coaches, Observers, and other required staff
Administration
Act as the primary contact point for all Umpire related inquiries
Coordinate Umpire Accreditation Process
Liaise with AFL Victoria Umpire Department
Assist with payroll requirements relevant to Umpires department
Coordination and communication of Umpire feedback forms
Be actively involved in the recruitment of Umpires
Ensure Umpire training venue needs are addressed and provided for
Assist with formulation and distribution of operational manuals
Various office, administrative and data entry duties
Jointly responsible for Umpiring Department Budget with Umpire Administration Assistant
Appointments
Assist with appointments for all NFNL competitions by liaising with relevant Umpire Coaches and Umpire Administration Officer
Facilitate replacement of injured or ill Umpires prior to and on game days
Umpire Development
Responsible for the ongoing conduct of Umpires Academies connected with the NFNL
Investigate recruitment opportunities of Umpires through schools, Local Government, and other sporting bodies in the NFNL area
Ensure regular communication with all registered Umpires
Oversee AFL, AFL Victoria and NFNL development initiatives and programs
Manage and implement the National Umpires Accreditation Scheme
Initiate development and deployment of strategies for the recruitment and retention of Umpires
Promotion / Events
Liaise with Media Manager and utilise advertising mediums (e.g. website and social media) to promote Umpires and Umpire development
Develop avenues to promote Umpire recognition
Assist with the coordination of Umpire functions and events
Actively seek out funding opportunities to assist in the operation of the NFNL Umpiring programs
