Sydney Rowing Club is seeking an experienced rowing coach with a record of success to join our coaching team and work directly with our lead men’s coach. This role presents a unique opportunity to join an experienced and ambitious professional coaching team, in a progressive and well-resourced rowing club which seeks to perform at every level.

Principal functions of this role.

  • Work closely with our senior coaches to coach and manage a large group of talented school leaver, U21 and club athletes and continue their journey through performance rowing, becoming ‘Sydney athletes for life’.
  • Maintain relationships and connections with school programs and their coaches, identifying potential athletes to join the club, on graduation from school; as well as offering assistance to their school coaches to aid their development while U19 and strengthen connections with SRC.
  • Manage and mentor the club’s member athletes in the U21 and club category regarding their objectives and ambitions in the sport and in the club; as well as working closely with the lead coach (Juniors/TID) to identify talented U19s and ensure their smooth transition into the senior rowing program.
  • Objectives for our athletes and coaches include racing at domestic regattas, state and national championships and state and national underage team selection for our most advanced athletes.
  • Key racing objectives for this role include the U21 Men’s Eight and small boats (for state team selection) at the NSW State Championships, as well as the U21, U23 and Club events at the National Championships. Due to the nature of underage racing in Australia, there is a strong focus on sweep oar crew boat rowing, though athletes regularly scull dependent on individual goals.
  • Where necessary, interaction with Rowing Australia (RA) or Rowing NSW regarding the implementation of RA’s High Performance Pathway Program within the club, U21 state team selections and assisting the junior coaches with U19 national team opportunities, is required.
  • SRC regularly competes in club events at Henley Royal Regatta winning on several occasions and are keen to continue this, as a key stepping stone in the athlete development pathway.
  • The candidate will take on other club wide roles, as appropriate.
  • Experience leading strength and conditioning programs would be highly desirable

Our rowing program is guided by the club’s 2024 Strategic Plan, details of which can be provided to bona fide applicants as part of our interview process. The U21 age group and club group of athletes are vital parts of our competitive rowing program producing talented rowers for our club, but also for New South Wales and Australian representation.

We consider this a full time role, however are open to discuss options to fit around existing commitments, as required.
