Overall Position Objective
Manage the Wanneroo Basketball Association (WBA) - Joondalup Wolves in line with its approved Budget, Governance and Risk Management Principles, and provide organisation-wide leadership, taking responsibly for the implementation of sound basketball and management strategies. Ensure continuous improvement and growth of all competitions, teams, players, coaches and officials that meets and exceeds expectations on participation and performance in all core areas of operation.
The Chief Executive Officer will ensure that the organisation is pursuing growth strategies in-line with the Board’s Direction, maintain all key stakeholder relationships, drive new revenue growth opportunities and ensure that the Organisation is operating in compliance with all statutory and Basketball Australia requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive the organisation’s strategic direction and work directly with the Board to plan and execute business strategies, with an emphasis upon commercial and member growth, additional venue identification and continuous improvement of all club competitions, programs and products.
- Provide informed advice, risk analysis and financial reporting to support Board decision-making.
- Represent the Association at WABL and NBL1 meetings, ensuring compliance and good governance.
- Oversee contract management and compliance frameworks across the association.
- Organise and prepare the Annual General Meeting and any other Association membership meetings.
- Attend Board meetings to present and discuss operational and strategic matters.
- Ensure that the Associations Constitution and By-Laws are reviewed, up to date and in effect at all times, providing a clear and robust governing framework for the organisation.
- Manage the performance and development of all staff and programs of the Association and as appropriate act as spokesperson for the Association.
- Represent the interests of WBA with all relevant stakeholders to ensure best practice stakeholder management principles are applied to enable growth opportunities to be presented, and sound professional relationships to be built and maintained.
- Manage relationships and procedures with Board Members, including administration and timely creation and distribution of Board documentation.
- Drive and deliver the Association’s brand and marketing requirements, including protecting and growing the brand position and building greater Wolfpack Basketball brand equity.
- Actively seek commercial partnerships, grant funding and other new revenue streams that will assist in delivering WBA objectives, whilst ensuring all existing relationships are effectively serviced, achieving year on year growth.
- Actively develop and deliver upon a venue procurement strategy, identifying new infrastructure and physical court resources to support growth and expansion of WBA competitions, programs and products.
- Lead the Association’s NBL1 program strategy and delivery, including planning and allocating the best available resources to ensure sustainable, long-term success for the Joondalup Wolves.
- Lead all aspects of relationship management with facility providers, including planning, negotiating and managing relationships for organisation benefit.
- Policy development for all aspects of WBA Operations and ensuring compliance with any relevant legislation of best practice measures.
- Ensure that budgets, O.H&S, risk management and customer service policies and procedures are in place and adhered to.
- Take directions from the President as applicable.

- Due to the nature of the sport, weekend and out of hours’ work is a principal requirement and expectation of the role.

Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Previous experience in a senior management/leadership role
- Previous sports industry experience - or similar
- Demonstrated success in strategic planning, operations and governance reporting
- Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills across stakeholders
- Proven financial acumen budgeting, forecasting, P&L and audit processes
- Proven leadership of teams delivering high-quality programs and services
- Current “C” Class Driver’s License
- Current Working with Children’s Check (WWC)
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
- Tertiary degree in Sports Management and or Business
- Previous basketball experience
- Event Management
