The Opportunity
This is a great opportunity to be part of the fitness programs at Maribyrnong City Council, contributing to the health and wellbeing of local residents by delivering high-quality group fitness classes at our leisure facilities with efficiency and professionalism.
We are currently seeking passionate and reliable group fitness instructors across a wide range of disciplines, including yoga, Pilates, Les Mills programs such as RMP (Resistance/Strength training), cycle/spin, Zumba, boxing, and other group-based fitness formats. Instructors who can create engaging, inclusive, and adaptable classes for participants of varying fitness levels are highly encouraged to apply.
What you'll be doing
- Bring genuine energy and a positive attitude to every class, showing that you enjoy leading and supporting participants.
- Greet everyone warmly before the class starts, use names where possible, and create a welcoming environment from the moment they arrive.
- Take attendance and make an effort to connect with new participants by introducing yourself and learning a little about them.
- Start and finish each class on time, respecting the scheduled duration and participants' commitments.
- Wrap up each session by thanking participants for their effort and encouraging them to return for future classes.
The skills and experience you'll bring to the role
- Demonstrated ability to confidently deliver a range of fitness classes across different formats and skill levels.
- Strong awareness of participant safety and wellbeing, with the ability to monitor and respond throughout each session.
- Clear and effective communication of instructions and safety cues to support proper technique and injury prevention.
- Ability to respond professionally to participant questions, concerns, or issues in a timely and appropriate manner.
Required Certifications and Qualifications
- Current registration with current governing body (e.g. AusActive/kinect)
- Exercise modules as required:
- Senior First Aid Certificate (HLTAID011).
- Resuscitation Certificate (HLTAID009)
- Current Working with Children Check - Employment Version
- Satisfactory Police Check
Desirable Certifications and Qualifications
- Experience in program instruction at a multi-use Leisure Centre
- Les Mills certificate
- Aqua Instructor qualification (AUSTSWIM or equivalent)
- RPM, Spin or Cycling certificates
- Zumba certificate
- Pilates or yoga certificate
- Certificate III & IV in Fitness/Personal Training or Group Exercise leader Certificate
- A second language
