Wests Tigers are seeking a highly motivated and proactive Football Communications Coordinator to lead the day-to-day delivery of football communications across our NRL, NRLW and Pathways programs.

Reporting to the General Manager of Corporate Affairs and Affiliates, this role plays a critical part in telling the stories behind our players, coaches and football programs while helping build and protect the Club's reputation across media, digital and stakeholder channels.

Working at the heart of a professional sporting environment, you will manage football media operations, identify compelling storytelling opportunities, support key football stakeholders and help ensure the Club's football narrative is delivered consistently, professionally and authentically.

About the Role

As Football Communications Coordinator, you will lead the operational execution of the Club's football media strategy and act as a key liaison between the football department, media, broadcasters and internal stakeholders.

You will work closely with the Corporate Affairs, Digital and Marketing teams to maximise media opportunities, support strategic communications initiatives and elevate the profile of Wests Tigers football programs.

Key Responsibilities

NRL Communications

  • Support the development and execution of the Club's NRL media strategy.
  • Lead day-to-day NRL media operations, including media requests, interviews, press conferences and media events.
  • Attend all NRL matches as Team Media Manager.
  • Manage match-day media requirements including broadcast liaison, player interviews and post-match media commitments.
  • Identify and execute proactive media opportunities that showcase players, coaches and football personnel.
  • Prepare media briefings, key messages, interview preparation materials and talking points.
  • Support football personnel during media appearances, community engagements and sponsor activations.

NRLW Communications

  • Support the development and execution of the Club's NRLW media strategy.
  • Coordinate day-to-day media operations across the NRLW program.
  • Attend NRLW matches as required and support match-day media commitments.
  • Identify storytelling opportunities that continue to grow the profile of the Club's NRLW program.

Pathways Communications

  • Support the delivery of communications and content initiatives across the Club's Pathways programs.
  • Promote the Club's investment in junior development and emerging talent.
  • Assist with key announcements, player signings, milestones and feature stories.

Media Relations

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with journalists, broadcasters, producers and media stakeholders.
  • Prepare media releases, feature pitches, editorial content and interview materials.
  • Monitor football media coverage, industry trends and public sentiment.
  • Maintain and manage the Club's football media database.

Digital and Content Collaboration

  • Work closely with Digital and Marketing teams to align media opportunities with campaigns and strategic initiatives.
  • Support football content across the Club website, including team announcements, match previews, match reports and player profiles.
  • Contribute to integrated storytelling opportunities across multiple platforms.

Department Support

  • Provide support and guidance to the Communications and Content Assistant.
  • Contribute to broader Corporate Affairs and stakeholder engagement initiatives.
  • Assist with strategic communications, issues management and reputation-sensitive matters as required.

You are an organised and confident communications professional with exceptional storytelling ability and a genuine passion for sport.

You thrive under pressure, build strong relationships quickly and can confidently manage multiple priorities while delivering high-quality outcomes.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Minimum 3 years' experience in communications, media, public relations, journalism or a related field.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong media writing, storytelling and editorial capability.
  • Experience managing media operations, interviews, press conferences and live events.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
  • Experience using content management systems.
  • Understanding of digital publishing, content planning and social media.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines.

Desirable

  • Experience working within professional sport.
  • Photography, videography or content capture capability.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Knowledge of rugby league and the Australian sporting landscape.

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally when required.
