About this Role
We are currently seeking a permanent full time Head Coach Swimming to develop an innovative and engaging Swimming Squad program that maximises the positive effects of school sports involvement for our students and wider community.
As the Head of Swimming, the position holder leads the development of staff and students to drive Ascham Swimming to the next level (including State and National representation). Key to the success of this is position is the ability to ensure our swimming program forms an important pillar within the entire sports program, that every student is well supported regardless of ability or age, and that our environment is safe, friendly and fosters participant excellence and good sportsmanship.
This is a permanent full-time position in term time only, with a larger summer season commitment in terms 1 and 4; and a smaller winter season commitment in terms 2 and 3. Some after hours and weekend work might also be required to support department initiatives.
What You Will Do
- Work in a pre-season, in-season and post-season capacity to develop and drive a vision for Ascham Swimming Squads
- Collaborate with the Head of Sport, sports administration team and other stakeholders around Swimming strategic priorities, program administration, scheduling and student wellbeing
- Cultivate an engaging journey for swimming students from beginner to representative levels
- Provide coaching and support to student-athletes and encourage a balance of academic results with sporting excellence
- Mentor Swimming program student leaders and encourage them to promote Ascham Swimming
- Recruit, lead and mentor a coaching team while also offering to act as coach or manager of Representative Teams
- Attend all competitions including weekend / mid-week carnivals to coach teams and oversee continuing development opportunities
- Organise, program and attend key events such as Swimming Season Launch, Club Race Nights, Representative Dinners and Emerging Athlete Camp including talent identification
- Implement a tracking system to record progression of individual students, teams and competition performances
- Implement assessments focused on continuous feedback and allocating students to teams / squads
- Complete weekly program administration including roll marking, student feedback and student awards
- Participate in an end of season review to evaluate program effectiveness and recommend future development.
What You Will Bring
- A “Development” Coaching Qualification in Swimming (or willingness to obtain)
- Demonstrated swimming coaching experience within a youth sports context
- A strong background across the 6-18 years age bracket (including across all swimming disciplines)
- Proven experience in coaching and/or leading other coaches in their discipline
- Ability to demonstrate teamwork, initiative, passion, collaboration and people management skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with the Sports Department and wider school community
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement and innovation
- Ability to respond to parent concerns in a timely and professional manner
- Advanced use of Microsoft Office suite of programs, including Outlook, Excel, Word and Teams
- A current First Aid and CPR Certificate, valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) and firm commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
