Description

Softball Victoria (SV) is the State Sporting Body for softball in Victoria that governs and administers the sport.

Operating since 1942, SV has a base of 16 member associations, over 50 clubs and has strong representation in primary and secondary schools across the State (consisting of over 20,000 participants annually).

SV supports associations to deliver junior, senior, social and elite-level softball and organises eleven State tournaments each year, covering both men’s and women’s events for Opens, Masters, U18, U16, U14 and U12 competitions.

SV also competes nationally at championships for men and women in Opens, Over 35, U23, U18, U16 and U14 categories.

In May 2026, Softball Victoria (SV) recently moved back to a Federated Model from Softball Australia's (SAL) 'One Softball' Model to align with other states.

Non-Executive Director:

  • One (1) appointed position is open for nomination to commence in August 2026.
  • Up to three (3) elected positions are open for nominations to be approved or voted on at the 2026 AGM on 18 October.

Work with an established board and small SV team who are committed to delivering great softball experiences to all associations, clubs and participants to support the continued growth of the sport. The role is a voluntary position.

SV Director duties include operating in line with the requirements of:

  • Board member code of conduct.

Roles and Responsibilities:

The roles and responsibilities of a Board member include, but are not limited to:

  • Actively undertake the work of the Board to review and ratify relevant decisions relating to policies, governance, budget, state team appointments and more.
  • Contribute to the strategic direction and governance of SV with a new strategic plan to be released soon, to 2030.
  • Provide oversight of risk, performance, and compliance to ensure long-term sustainability.
  • Offer specialist insights that strengthen decision-making at the Board and committee level.
  • Champion Softball Victoria's vision and values within your networks and the wider 
    community.
  • There are approx (8) eight board meetings per annum, which are held either in-person or online, plus an AGM where in-person attendance is preferred.
  • Become knowledgeable about issues in sport and softball and the business and regulatory environment, without becoming involved in the day-to-day management.
  • Be supportive of the public events at which Board Member presence is desirable.
  • Respect the confidentiality of Board meetings and proceedings.
  • Identify and declare the nature and extent of any possible conflicts of interest and remove themselves from any relevant decision process.
  • Read, understand and comply with the Code of Conduct for Board Members.

Additionally, the Board as a whole has a group responsibility to provide advice and oversight to the operations of Softball Victoria.

Desirable Skills/Experience:

The following skills and experience would be highly desirable but not essential:

  • Legal background or qualifications.
  • Finance/CFO, accounting knowledge or qualifications.
  • Experience in sports governance outside of Softball.

To ensure independence of the Board, persons currently undertaking an operational role within member associations are ineligible.

Submit by 30 July 2026 if an Appointed Director, or by 2 September for an Elected Director.
