15-month Full-Time Contract

Play a lead role in delivering one of Australia's largest and most iconic multi-sport events.

The Australian Masters Games is Australia's premier multi-sport festival. Held from 13–20 November 2027 across Newcastle and the Central Coast, the Games will welcome up to 8,000 participants and supporters competing in more than 40 sports.

Purpose of the Role

Working closely with the General Manager, the Sports & Operations Manager will lead the planning and delivery of the Games sport program while overseeing key operational and logistics functions. This is a hands-on role requiring exceptional organisation, stakeholder management and event delivery skills to ensure a successful Australian Masters Games.

  • Coordinate the allocation of sports across the Sports & Operations team.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with National and State Sporting Organisations, sport convenors and organising committees.
  • Monitor sport planning across venues, budgets, registrations, volunteers, officials, risk management and event operations.
  • Conduct venue audits and ensure Games venues are operationally ready.
  • Lead the planning and delivery of Games logistics and operational services.
  • Lead, support and develop staff, interns and volunteers to deliver an exceptional participant experience.

 Selection Criteria

  • Tertiary qualifications in Event or Sport Management are desirable but not essential.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a multi-sport, major event, National or State sporting body environment.
  • Proven experience in operations and logistics in the sport/event management industry.
  • Sound financial management skills and experience in negotiating favorable agreements with stakeholders and ensuring quality and on-time services are provided.
  • Demonstrated ability in coordinating multiple projects simultaneously and ensuring that tasks are completed on time.
  • Proven ability in establishing and maintaining professional relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to lead and coordinate a team to ensure operational outcomes are met.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage effectively across diverse stakeholder groups.

Additional Information

  • All applicants must have the right and where required appropriate Visa to work in Australia for the duration of the contract period.
  • This is a contract position, commencing in September 2025 and concluding in December 2027.
