Be part of the return of a Sydney sporting icon
After a multi-year closure and a significant upgrade funded under the NSW Government's WestInvest program, Canterbury Olympic Ice Rink is reopening its doors. Sydney's home of ice sports is back - a full Olympic-size rink with a new roof, a new olympic sized rink, upgraded amenities and a fresh look - and we're building the founding team that will bring it back to life.
We're recruiting several Duty Managers to lead our shifts from day one. You'll be a senior person in the building during your sessions: running the venue, leading the on-shift team, keeping our ice in top condition and making sure every skater - from first-timers to figure skaters, hockey players and speed skaters - has a safe and brilliant experience.
About the role
As Duty Manager, you'll take charge of the safe, smooth and customer-focused operation of the rink during rostered sessions. Reporting to the General Manager, you will:
- Open and close the venue and act as the responsible officer on shift
- Lead and coordinate rostered casual staff across reception, skate hire and rink-side
- Operate the ice resurfacer (Zamboni/Olympia) and maintain the ice to session and competition standard - full training provided
- Set the standard for great customer service on every shift - at reception, skate hire and rink-side
- Set the cultural standard for leadership, integrity and professionalism
- Lead food and beverage operations across the café and kiosk during sessions and events
- Manage events and functions on the day - birthday parties, group visits, private hire, club sessions and community events
- Oversee skate hire, venue presentation and safety inspections
- Manage point-of-sale operations, cash floats, reconciliations and end-of-day settlements
- Champion a child-safe, welcoming environment for all patrons
The roster rotates across early mornings, evenings, weekends, school holidays and public holidays. With multiple positions available, we can build rosters around a range of availability - so tell us what works for you.
About you
You'll need:
- Demonstrated experience supervising shifts or teams in a customer-facing venue (leisure, aquatic, entertainment, hospitality or sporting facility)
- A genuine passion for great customer service, with strong conflict-resolution skills and sound judgement under pressure
- Food and beverage experience - café, kiosk or similar service environment
- A current NSW Working with Children Check (or ability to obtain before commencing)
- Current First Aid (HLTAID011) and CPR (HLTAID009) certificates, or willingness to obtain before commencing
- Availability across a rotating roster including early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays
- Competent cash handling and POS experience, plus sound written skills for reports and checklists
- The physical capacity for a hands-on role in a cold environment (manual handling up to 20 kg)
Bonus points for:
- Previous ice rink management or duty management experience
- Experience operating an ice resurfacer or maintaining an ice surface
- Event and function management experience
- Background in an ice rink, aquatic centre or similar recreation facility, including plant monitoring
- Skating ability - figure, hockey or recreational
- A driver licence, warden training, or a Certificate III/IV in Sport and Recreation
No ice experience? No problem. If you're a proven shift leader with great customer instincts, we'll train you on the ice side - including the Zamboni.
