Description

We are seeking a highly organised and proactive Junior Leagues Administrator to support the delivery of the Junior Country Championships (JCC), Victorian Junior Basketball League (VJBL) Regional Country Leagues, and a range of junior competitions and events. 

Reporting to the Leagues & Events Coordinator, you will play a key role in the administration and delivery of Basketball Victoria’s junior competitions, ensuring competitions run smoothly, stakeholders are supported, and opportunities for growth and participation are maximised. 

About Us  

Basketball Victoria (BV) is the peak body for the sport of Basketball in Victoria. The broad objectives of BV are to provide for the advancement, encouragement, conduct, promotion and administration of Basketball in Victoria. We are a member driven governing body, providing a range of services, leagues and competitions for over 140 affiliated associations.

In addition to supporting our affiliated Basketball associations, BV delivers a number of participation programs making basketball Everybody’s Game, as well as player, coach and technical official development programs to encourage the development of socially desirable attitudes and values towards physical fitness, skill acquisition, and performance pathways.

Key responsibilities for the role - but not limited to: 

Junior Country Championships (JCC) 

  • Coordinating the JCC venue tender process and confirming venue allocations 
  • Overseeing team and individual player registrations 
  • Administering eligibility requirements are met and exemption/appeal process 
  • Establishing team rankings for each competition 
  • Communicate with participating associations to support successful program delivery. 
  • Administering all JCC fixtures 
  • Coordinating event merchandise, trophies, and awards 
  • Maintaining and updating the JCC Rules of Operation 
  • Delivering all aspects of event presentation, from planning and preparation through to execution and post-event review 
  • Ensuring all event operations comply with Child Safety requirements 

Victorian Junior Basketball Leagues (VJBL):  

  • Introduce a VJBL regional country league structure 
  • Administer the team and participant registration and eligibility 
  • Identify & develop opportunities for growth, and establishing new regional country leagues  
  • Liaise with Technical Officials regarding officials for new or established leagues/events 

Other Responsibilities 

  • Providing day to day administration support to the Hooptime competition, Victorian Secondary Schools Challenge, Champions Cup and 3x3 events 
  • Being a ‘game day contact’ on organised rotation of Basketball Victoria leagues/events 
  • Liaise closely with internal teams to coordinate support services such as Technical Officials, media, Marketing & communications for key activities aligned with Basketball Victoria’s Strategic and Operational Plans. 
  • Investigate and evaluate potential competition growth opportunities and future participation needs. 
  • Contribute to the successful delivery of additional Basketball Victoria events, including major events such as the National Junior Classic and Grand Final Nights, as well as other events requiring staff involvement. 
  • Undertake other duties as directed, consistent with the role 

About you 

You are a proactive and detail-oriented administrator who thrives in a fast-paced sporting environment. You communicate clearly, build strong relationships, and take pride in delivering well-run competitions. 

Essential: 

  • Demonstrated alignment with Basketball Victoria's values and ethical standards. 
  • Experience administering sporting competitions, leagues or events. 
  • Experience interpreting, applying and enforcing competition rules and policies. 
  • Strong organisational and time management skills. 
  • Ability to prioritise competing tasks and meet deadlines. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills. 
  • High attention to detail and accuracy. 
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team. 
  • Strong computer and administrative skills. 

Desirable: 

  • Experience in fixture development and competition scheduling. 
  • Knowledge of basketball competition structures and pathways. 
  • Experience working with sporting associations, clubs or community sport organisations. 
  • Experience supporting regional sporting programs or events. 

Qualifications & Requirements 

  • Tertiary qualification in Sports Management, Business Administration, Event Management or a related discipline, and/or a minimum of three years' relevant experience. 
  • Current Victorian Driver Licence. 
  • Current Working With Children Check (or ability to obtain). 
  • Eligibility to work in Australia.

This role is based at Wantirna South and requires travel across Victoria, with flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required. Travel expenses will be reimbursed.
