Description

Do you want to coach athletes who are genuinely hungry to improve? Athletes who show up, listen, and push each
other to be better every single session? If you have a passion for developing young paddlers and a belief that sport
builds character, we want to hear from you.

WHO WE ARE

Kawana Waters Canoe Club (KWCC) is one of the Sunshine Coast's most exciting paddling clubs, home to athletes of
all levels, from first-time paddlers through to high-performance juniors targeting national and international
competition. We are the base of CANU32, a structured junior development program with an eye firmly on the Brisbane
2032 Olympic Games.

We don't just develop paddlers. We develop people. Our culture is built on showing up with intent, supporting each
other, and doing the hard work with humility. Our athletes carry this into their races, their schools, and their
communities, and we need a coach who embodies the same standard.

THE ROLE

As our Sprint Canoe / Kayak Coach, you'll work hands-on with our junior and youth athletes, delivering technical on-
water sessions, building individualised training programs, and preparing athletes for competition at club, state, and

national level. You'll apply the Technical Development Framework and LTAD principles to guide athletes through every
stage of their paddling journey.

No two sessions are the same. You'll be on the water coaching in real time, developing race plans, running event
debriefs, and building the kind of coach-athlete relationships that create genuine long-term development. This role has
room to grow, for the right person, this is the beginning of something significant.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Design and deliver technical on-water sessions for junior athletes across sprint and marathon disciplines
  • Apply Canoe Stages of Technical Development to track and progress athlete technique
  • Build and deliver periodised training plans tied to the club and state competition calendars
  • Attend and coach at key events: Paddle QLD School Championships, Club Championships, and national events
  • Provide individualised athlete feedback using coaching cues, video review, and session debriefs
  • Contribute to the CANU32 program, athlete development plans, competition runsheets, and performance reviews
  • Build strong, respectful relationships with athletes, families, and the volunteer team

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

You must have:

  • Paddle Australia Level 1 Coaching Accreditation (or equivalent), Level 2 highly regarded
  • Experience coaching junior canoe / kayak athletes in sprint or marathon
  • Current Blue Card (Working With Children, Queensland)
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • A genuine passion for developing young athletes, technically and as people
  • The communication skills to connect with athletes aged 12 to 18 and their families

You'll stand out if you have:

  • Experience with Technical Development Framework or equivalent
  • Knowledge of periodisation, LTAD, and high-performance program design
  • Previous involvement in a state or national high-performance paddling program
  • Familiarity with video analysis tools for technique feedback
  • A background in competitive paddling, sprint, marathon, or surf ski
