Description

The Australian Sports Commission is embarking on the Green and Gold decade. An exciting time filled with international sporting competitions on home soil, including the Men’s and Women’s Rugby World Cup, and culminating in the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. We have an ambitious new Strategic Vision and we need the best players on our team to help us deliver real results for the sporting sector and all Australians.

Are you up for the challenge?

About the team – The Australian Institute of Sport is renewing its Canberra campus with major new high performance facilities that will support athletes, coaches and performance teams on the pathway to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games and beyond.

This is an opportunity for a technically skilled, hands-on problem solver to apply their expertise in a setting unlike most workplaces: a national high performance sport campus where equipment, systems and spaces directly support athlete preparation, testing, training and development. Work at the centre of Australia’s high-performance sport system during a major period of renewal.

Join a collaborative campus environment with exposure to sport science, medicine, coaching, research and performance services and use your technical skills in a purpose-driven environment where the work supports athlete preparation and performance.

About the role – The AIS campus is being revitalised through the AIS Podium Project, a major Australian Government investment that includes a new Testing and Training Centre, an indoor Sport Dome for all-weather training, and a fully Para-accessible Athletes’ Village. These facilities are designed to strengthen the AIS as a modern, inclusive and world-class environment for Australian sport.

As Senior Technical Officer, you will help bring some of these environments to life. You will support the set-up, maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting and safe operation of specialist equipment and systems, while contributing practical, bespoke technical solutions for the varied needs of sports, athletes and performance practitioners.

The successful candidate will bring:

  • Technical experience in equipment operation, maintenance, calibration, diagnostics, engineering, laboratory systems or related support.
  • Experience in sport, health, research, education, engineering, laboratories, facilities, defence, industry or another technical environment.
  • A practical mindset, curiosity and confidence working with bespoke equipment, changing requirements and real-world problems.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work with people from technical and non-technical backgrounds.

About you – Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting specialist equipment, systems and environments used in high performance sport.
  • Keeping equipment safe, accurate and reliable through maintenance, calibration and troubleshooting.
  • Developing practical technical solutions tailored to different sports, athletes and performance programs.
  • Contribute to the commissioning, integration and readiness of new technical spaces across the AIS campus.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications or demonstrated experience in technology management, project management, science, engineering or related area.
  • Experience with electronic and technical equipment development, fabrication and repair.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in technical support in laboratory and specialist facilities or related fields.

This position is offered as an ONGOING position
