Description

This role provides support to the A League Mens physical performance through the design, delivery and evaluation of the physical performance programme for the 1st team. This includes both on and off field delivery within the microcycle and games programme and the delivery of physical development within the squad, based on individual development plans. Collaboration with 1st team staff is essential.

The role is primarily based at the training ground at Tuggerah, NSW, with support for match days. Travel is an essential part of the role for all matches, as well as training camps at certain times of the season. This is a full time role, with the work schedule being fully aligned with the 1st team training and match schedule. The role will include evening and weekend work as directed by the schedule of the team, and other individual requirements at times.

Key Duties

Physical Performance Support

  • In conjunction with staff across the Performance and Football department, work collaboratively to develop a systematic, objective and impactful individual performance plan (IDP) process for each of the players in the development squad. This includes both on and off pitch IDP components.
  • As part of the IDP process, collaboratively create bespoke physical performance programs and strategies which clearly underpin their football performance, physical development and robustness. (Assess - Plan - Delivery - Review).
  • Lead the development and delivery of physical profiling/monitoring, that provides clear and objective feedback to the Performance and Football Departments, about each individual player.

Return to Performance Support

  • As part of a multidisciplinary team be a key member in delivering high level return to performance support to optimise each player’s rehab journey and effectively return players to full fitness in good timelines.
  • Work collaboratively with medical and rehabilitation staff to develop bespoke RTP plans for each injured player with an emphasis on leading their ongoing physical development while injured.

On Pitch Performance Support

  • Lead the overall on pitch training plan design to ensure effective management of players physical program and readiness to train to compete in every game. Liaise with coaching staff around content within each training session to fit the physical theme for that day.
  • Conduct pitch-based warm-ups / physical development components, that are fully integrated within football sessions and demonstrate effective collaboration with football coaches / MDT. Ensure the locomotive development is fully aligned with the weekly microcycle and daily theme.
  • Lead the monitoring of external training load (GPS), ensuring individual loadings are reviewed and planned based on training / match data. Utilise ‘live’ in session to feedback to coaching staff.
  • Ensure players are appropriately fuelled and hydrated supporting optimal performance and recovery.

Overall Environment Duties

  • Attend all appropriate review/planning meetings (Team, MDT, Performance etc) to proactively contribute to the overall management of the environment, players, AOB and general day to day scheduling.
  • Have a clear periodised plan at both team and individual level that considers the training/fixture schedule and provides appropriate proactively planned strategies to manage the groups physical development, robustness and readiness across the whole calendar year.
  • To ensure all performance environments are kept to an elite level, and high standards are driven across all environment spaces.

Safeguarding

  • To have or develop an impeccable knowledge of safeguarding best practice to include a deep understanding of safeguarding children’s regulations, including legislation & governing body rules.
  • To ensure that any safeguarding or welfare concerns are reporting efficiently.
  • To comply with all company policies/procedures and adhere to all company regulations regarding policies, procedures, health, safety, and security.

Essential Requirements

  • Human Movement / Coaching / Exercise / Sports Science Degree
  • Working with Children / Working with Vulnerable People Check
  • Drivers Licence
  • 1-2 yrs previous experience in the providion of physical performance support to elite environments (football desirable but not essential)
  • Passionate about working with elite athletes and creating/managing programmes to facilitate their long-term physical, psychological and social development.
  • Experience of working with Coaches and other members of the MDT
  • IT skills to include a high level of competence using Excel, Word and PowerPoint skills
  • Creative and engaging presentation skills.
  • Excellent overall level of numeracy and literacy.

Desirable Criteria

  • Masters Degree or working towards, in Sports Science, Strength & Conditioning or related discipline
