Lead the future of Brisbane Basketball
Strategic Leadership | Commercial Growth | Organisational Excellence
Brisbane Basketball Incorporated (BBI) is seeking an exceptional General Manager to lead one of Queensland's longest established and largest basketball associations through its next phase of growth, development and organisational success.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced, commercially astute and highly motivated executive to make a lasting contribution to basketball in Brisbane.
We are looking for more than an administrator. We want a dynamic leader with strategic vision, strong commercial acumen, exceptional people skills and the drive to deliver meaningful results.
The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the Management Committee, the General Manager will have overall executive responsibility for the leadership, management, financial sustainability and performance of the Association.
The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in implementing BBI's 2027-2031 Strategic Plan, strengthening the Association's commercial position, expanding basketball participation, developing strategic partnerships and positioning the organisation to capitalise on opportunities associated with Brisbane 2032.
Working with an established team of departmental managers, the General Manager will provide the leadership, direction and accountability necessary to build a high-performing and sustainable sporting organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership: Drive implementation of the Association's Strategic Plan, translating strategic priorities into measurable operational and organisational outcomes.
- Financial Sustainability: Take responsibility for financial performance, budget management, expenditure control, revenue growth and long-term financial sustainability.
- Commercial Development: Identify and secure sponsorships, corporate partnerships, grants and other revenue-generating opportunities.
- Basketball Growth: Lead initiatives to increase participation, strengthen basketball pathways and enhance the experience of players, coaches, officials and members.
- People and Culture: Lead, motivate and develop a high-performing team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, professionalism and continuous improvement.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build productive relationships with government, Basketball Queensland, Basketball Australia, sponsors, community organisations and other key stakeholders.
- Facilities and Infrastructure: Provide strategic oversight of facilities and infrastructure development, including opportunities associated with Brisbane 2032.
- Governance and Risk: Support the Management Committee through effective reporting, sound governance practices, risk management and compliance with relevant legislative and sporting requirements.
About You
You will be an accomplished leader with a demonstrated ability to manage complex organisations, deliver strategic outcomes and achieve sustainable commercial results.
Ideally, you will demonstrate:
- Significant senior management or executive leadership experience, preferably within sport, not-for-profit, community services or a comparable organisation.
- Strong financial management skills, commercial judgement and a demonstrated capacity to improve organisational performance.
- Proven success in business development, sponsorship acquisition, strategic partnerships or revenue generation.
- Experience developing and implementing strategic and operational plans.
- Excellent leadership and people management capabilities, with the ability to build a positive, accountable and performance-focused workplace.
- Highly developed communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Sound understanding of corporate governance, risk management and organisational compliance.
- A proactive, solutions-focused approach, strong personal integrity and a willingness to take ownership of outcomes.
Experience in basketball or the broader sporting sector would be advantageous; however, demonstrated leadership capability, commercial acumen and a record of delivering results will be paramount.
Applicants must hold, or be eligible to obtain, a valid Queensland Working with Children Check (Blue Card).
The Commitment
This is a demanding and rewarding senior leadership position requiring a dedicated professional who understands that leading a major community sporting organisation extends beyond conventional office hours.
The successful candidate must be prepared to maintain a visible presence across the Association, attend important competitions and events, engage with stakeholders and undertake reasonable evening and weekend commitments as required.
We are seeking a leader who is passionate about making a difference, takes pride in organisational success and is prepared to demonstrate the energy, initiative and personal commitment required to lead BBI into the future.
