Description

About the club

Manly Rugby is one of Sydney’s foundation rugby clubs and competes across Grade, Colts and Women’s in the Shute Shield and associated competitions. The Colts (U20) program is the club’s pathway squad - the players who go on to Grade, and in some cases into Super Rugby academies.

About us

Active Answers Health is a physiotherapy practice in Seaforth, ten minutes from Manly’s grounds. From the 2027 season we deliver the physiotherapy and medical service across the Manly Rugby program - Grade, Colts and Women’s.

The role

You would be the physiotherapist for the Colts program - training cover, match days, rehabilitation and return-to-play decisions for that squad across the season. The role reports to the Head Physiotherapist for the Manly program and works alongside the club’s strength and conditioning staff and coaching group.

Key responsibilities

  • Pitch-side cover at Colts training - Monday and Wednesday evenings through pre-season and the season.
  • All Colts match days: preparation and strapping, sideline cover, acute injury management, and post-match handover.
  • Attendance at the Monday triage clinic, and input to the weekly coaches’ meeting on Colts player availability.
  • Rehabilitation programming and criterion-based return-to-play decisions for Colts players, under the Head Physiotherapist.
  • The Colts pre-season camp and sevens tournaments - you travel with the squad you work with all season.
  • Pre-season screening and objective testing for the Colts top squad, as part of the wider club testing day.
  • Keeping the club’s live injury and availability record current for your players.
  • Working with the S&C team on modified training, load management and return to performance.

Essential

  • Current AHPRA registration as a physiotherapist.
  • Available Monday and Wednesday evenings and Saturdays across the season.
  • Willing to complete the Immediate Care in Rugby Level 2 course before round one - we fund this.
  • Current driver’s licence and own transport.
  • Current Working with Children Check, or willing to obtain one.
  • Professional indemnity insurance, or willing to be covered under ours.

Desirable

  • Two or more years of post-graduate clinical experience.
  • Previous sideline experience in a collision sport.
  • Confident, efficient strapping across the common rugby presentations.
  • Experience programming rehabilitation and making return-to-play decisions.

Applicants earlier in their career with a genuine interest in sport are encouraged to apply.

Development and support

  • Mentoring and professional development available from an APA Titled Sports and Exercise Physiotherapist who has worked with the Australian Under 20s program and managed the NSW Waratahs Academy for three years.
  • Responsibility for a Shute Shield Colts program across a full season, with senior clinical support available.
  • Immediate Care in Rugby Level 2 certification, funded by the club.
  • Exposure to the representative and Super Rugby pathway through the Colts program.
