About the Role

Reporting to the Performance Planning Manager, the Physical Preparation Manager will be responsible for improving the physical preparation of the men’s national squad as well as individual players through the coordination, planning and delivery of strength and conditioning programs. The clear goal being to achieve medal success at international benchmark events, specifically the 2026 World Cup and the 2028 LA Olympic Games. This is a fixed-term contract until October 2028.

Key Accountabilities

  • Plan, design and implement physical preparation programs for HA National Squad athletes based on individual performance plan needs with an understanding to the technical, tactical and physical demands of the sport
  • Provide the highest level of technical coaching and supervision to the HA National Squad players in group and individual settings
  • Design individualised and sport specific programs, to improve the physical capacities for all HA National Squad athletes
  • Collate and prioritise recommendations from screening, testing and load monitoring data into individual program design to aid performance and reduce injury prevention
  • Plan, manage and monitor team workloads as well as the individual’s response to training utilising AMS, GPS data and other information where available.
  • Assist National coaches with the planning of training loads to develop physical attributes of players

Remuneration

Hockey Australia will offer a $110,000 - $120,000 salary plus superannuation dependent upon the successful applicant's skills and experience.

Experience, Skills and Attributes

  • Undergraduate degree in Human Movement / Sports Science, Post Graduate Qualifications desirable
  • 5+ years’ experience in a similar role
  • ASCA Pro-scheme Professional Coach or above
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, time management and planning skills
  • Analyse and interpret performance data, including GPS, to inform decisions on the preparation of athletes and provide recommendations to the coaching group
  • Work collaboratively with coaching, medical and other HPU support staff within the HPU
