The Opportunity
Are you looking for an opportunity to study while you gain work experience? Do you want to develop business and administrative skills? Are you interested in community sport and recreation? If so, this traineeship could be for you.
Noosa Council’s Sport and Active Lifestyle Branch are seeking a trainee to contribute to their sport and recreation projects whilst completing a Certificate III in Business. The trainee will join a friendly and supportive team that is focused on providing exceptional services and programs that enhance community health and wellbeing.

About You
To undertake this position, you will have some experience working with sporting clubs, community groups or organisations of a similar environment in roles as a player, coach or volunteer.
You will have demonstrated interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and the ability to provide administrative support.
Furthermore, you will have a desire to work in the sport and recreation industry.
The position's focus will be:
- Assist in the coordination and administration of sport and recreation projects and activities, ensuring timelines are met.
- Help conduct facility audits across council owned and managed sporting venues, documenting conditions, compliance issues, and maintenance needs.
- Support procurement processes, including obtaining quotes for the creation of purchase orders for maintenance and minor works.
- Assist in updating asset registers and condition assessment databases.
- Assist in managing monthly invoicing and bookings for the Olive Donaldson Pavilion.
- Provide administrative support for community sport and recreation programs or events.
- Assist in the delivery of council-run participation initiatives, such as school holiday activities, Sport4All program.
- Support marketing and promotion efforts, including social media updates, flyers, and stakeholder communications.
- Liaise with local sporting clubs and user groups to support facility bookings, seasonal allocations, and general enquiries.
- Assist in delivering workshops, forums or information sessions to sporting groups on relevant topics which may include funding, governance, and best practices.
- Respond to general community and stakeholder enquiries regarding sport and recreation services.
- Ensure personal safety and the safety of others by following council policies and procedures, cooperating with all reasonable instructions and actively participating in all health & safety training and consultation.
First Start
This traineeship is partly funded under the First Start program which is one of eight programs that make up the Queensland Government’s Skilling Queenslanders for Work project. This Skilling Queenslanders for Work project is proudly funded by the Queensland Government.
First Start primarily targets young Queensland school leavers and disadvantaged job seekers considered at risk of enduring prolonged periods of unemployment including:
- young people (aged 15-24 years), including those in and transitioned from out-of-home care
- long-term unemployed job seekers
- mature-age job seekers (aged 45 years or older)
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
- migrants and refugees from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
- people with disability
- displaced workers
- women re-entering the workforce
- veterans, ex-ADF personnel and their families.
To be eligible, disadvantaged Queenslanders must also be:
- aged 15 years or older and no longer at school
- able to meet citizen, residency and visa
- and must not have previously accessed First Start funding or completed the proposed qualification
