Description

The State Pathway Coach is a full-time position responsible for the management and development of Rowing SA's Pathway and Development programs including the Academy and State Teams. This position will involve coaching, Talent Identification, oversee the selection of athletes, and coordinate the State Team while ensuring the growth and effectiveness of the Rowing SA Pathway. You will work closely with the Chief Executive Officer and other key stakeholders to align both the State Pathway, State Team and Academy goals with Rowing SA's strategic objectives.

A significant component of the role will be the Academy program which exists to identify, support and develop talented U19 and U21 rowers (able and para) to reach their potential. Equipping them with the tools to achieve success in rowing both nationally and internationally. It aims to provide education, opportunity and community for athletes, coaches, and parents. The Academy provides a structured pathway for these emerging athletes into existing SASI and Rowing Australia Performance Pathways. Talent identification will be a core focus to transition athletes along the pathway to the 2028 and 2032 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.

Hours of Work:

Full-Time (38 hours per week). Flexibility is required, with the expectation of attending training sessions, selection events, and other key activities related to the role. Fixed Term Contract until 30 June 2026 with an opportunity to extend.

Remuneration:

$80,000 plus superannuation. The role includes the option to use a company vehicle, with associated expenses covered. Alternatively, depending on the successful candidate's preference, they may use their own personal vehicle, in which case an allowance will be provided to cover related costs.

Key Responsibilities

 Coaching & Athlete Development:

  • Lead the development and implementation of training programs for both the Academy and State Team athletes in collaboration with other State Team Coaches.
  • Coordinate coaches and coaching sessions for the State Team in preparation for the Interstate, Pathway, Masters, and Oceanic U22 Regattas/Championships.
  • Provide individual and group coaching sessions focused on skill development, fitness, and race strategy.
  • Oversee athlete performance monitoring and ensure alignment with national and international standards.
  • Foster a positive and high-performance culture within the Academy and State Teams.
  • Support club and whole-of-sport growth and development initiatives.
  • Lead and manage the delivery of the RSA Pathway Model in SA.
  • Implement and lead coach mentoring and development throughout the state.

State Team Selection:

  • Coordinate with selectors to ensure a fair and transparent selection process for both coaches and athletes.
  • Assist in the formulation and implementation of selection policies, ensuring they are in line with Rowing SA’s objectives.
  • Provide guidance and support to the State Team Selection Panel (STSP) for the selection of crews and coaches.
  • Attend and actively participate in all selection events, training sessions, and meetings.
  • Provide ongoing and clear communication to all State Team nominees.

Academy and Program Management:

  • Oversee the operational aspects of the Rowing SA Academy, ensuring effective training and athlete engagement.
  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance athlete recruitment and retention within the Academy.
  • Ensure the Academy’s alignment with Rowing SA’s broader objectives for growth and performance.
  • Work with staff and volunteers to ensure smooth program delivery, including event preparation and post-event evaluations.
  • Coordinate TID across South Australia and their transition into rowing programs.
  • Coordinate regular Education programs across South Australia.

Indoor Rowing for Non-Rowing Schools:

  • Support the development of indoor rowing programs aimed at schools with no access to rowing facilities, fostering inclusivity in the sport - a TID initiative.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Build and maintain effective relationships with Rowing SA affiliated clubs, schools, and other rowing organisations.
  • Collaborate to enhance the profile of Rowing SA’s coaching programs and teams.
  • Engage community members to support Rowing SA's growth and sustainability.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of key events, such as Academy events, and State Team functions.

Skills and Attributes

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Rowing Coaching Accreditation - Level 2 (or higher) is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in coaching at a high level with a proven ability to develop and implement training programs.
  • Experience in coaching of TID programs and para athletes is desirable.
  • Experience in athlete selection, performance assessment, and event coordination.
  • Working with Children Check and First Aid Certificate required.
  • A deep understanding of rowing techniques, strategy, and fitness principles.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with athletes, coaches, and stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and work autonomously under broad direction.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Proficiency in computer skills is essential, including a strong working knowledge of software applications e.g., Microsoft Office, etc., and the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new software and tools as needed.
  • High attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate athletes and coaching staff.
  • Proficiency in digital platforms for communication, event management, and performance tracking.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to foster collaboration and stakeholder engagement.
