Based in Brisbane, this exciting role is ideal for a qualified Sports and Exercise Physiotherapist passionate about elite athletic performance. This role requires the provision of Physiotherapy support to athletes in the Football Queensland pathways (including the Brisbane Roar Women’s program) as well as to categorized podium, developing and emerging athletes in the QAS Women's Football and Medal Support programs. Work will be conducted from QSAC and other affiliated training facilities. You will also be responsible for developing strategies to support exceptional High-Performance outcomes. Travel in the role both nationally and, potentially internationally, is expected.

As a QAS Physiotherapist you will be responsible for:

  • Explanation to the athlete/s (and coaches) your role and the physiotherapy support available to them, at either a Sport induction or upon an athlete’s entry into a program. 
  • Conduct initial health evaluations using an agreed screening tool within one month of the athlete commencing in a QAS supported program, in collaboration with other performance support team members Eg S&C practitioners
  • Oversee screening follow-up and conduct periodic health evaluations as required. 
  • Upload accurate and timely consultation details into the QAS/NSO Athlete Management System (AMS) within 48 hours of consulting with an athlete. 
  • Contribute relevant information into Athlete plans to reflect Athlete’s performance and health goals. 
  • In the event of athlete injury, arrange an appointment within a reasonable and appropriate timeframe (generally within 48 hours), to consult with and treat that athlete at the sport training venue, or onsite at QAS, or at an agreed alternate location. 
  • If additional treatment outside of designated number of days is required, the Supplier is requested to be available to consult with and treat injured QAS athletes at an agreed location, and within a reasonable time frame. Prior approval from QAS is required to establish whether this will be at the athlete or QAS expense. Uploading notes from such consultations is required into the AMS as described in item 3.1(4) above. 
  • Prioritise regular attendance at performance support meetings as agreed with the relevant Coaches,
  • and provide guidance on athlete health status, and contribute to proactive measures that improve athlete performance. 
  • Develop professional and effective working relationships with athletes, coaches and other QAS and
  • National support staff. Provide timely handovers to medical and health staff when indicated.
  • Meet regularly with the QAS Physiotherapy Technical Lead (and relevant NSO equivalent) to review complex cases, discuss system improvements and review individual performance and objective plans (iPOPs). 
  • Working within the relevant QAS and National Sport policies, guidelines and position statements for their athletes and sport/s. 
  • If required, attend Sports Camps/ Events to provide relevant Physiotherapy services to athletes. Attendance must be approved in writing by the QAS Head of Performance Health prior to delivery of service. This may include interstate and overseas travel.
  • Create time and space to attend training sessions (including gym sessions) to nurture athlete and coach connection, collaboration and early intervention strategies.
  • Develop strong and genuine connection with performance support team members to foster collaboration, efficiencies and positive health and performance outcomes.

In addition to the above, you may also be responsible for:

  • During Performance Support Team (PST) meetings, the Supplier may be required to act as a conduit
  • for other professions, providing relevant updates on athlete health to coaches and others in the PST.
  • The Supplier will remain responsible for ensuring Daily Training Completion is recorded. A review of this record and epidemiology availability report (Sports Health report) should be completed quarterly to understand the impact of injury/ illness or other factors on an athlete’s ability to successfully train and compete.
  • The Supplier is responsible (with the Medical Doctor) in the early diagnosis and management of acute or persistent injury presentations and their rehabilitation. A close working relationship with Strength and Conditioning is important as the athlete works to maintain levels of fitness and prepares to return to training and competition.

Essential Requirements

  • Relevant Tertiary Qualification
  • First Aid Certificate
  • Current Provide/Perform CPR
  • Sports Medicine / Physio / Allied Health Degree
  • National Police / Criminal History Check
  • Working with Children / Working with Vulnerable People Check
  • ABN and current Public Liability & Indemnity Insurance
  • Bachelor of Physiotherapy or equivalent
  • Ethical supplier Threshold
  • Be an APA Titled Sports and Exercise Physiotherapist through completion of a Post Graduate Masters degree in Sports Physiotherapy (or equivalent) or the Experiential Titling Pathway
  • Current full registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Physiotherapist
