About the opportunity

Our Aqua Learn to Swim program is offered at Key Venues' 5 aquatic venues, Blacktown Aquatic Centre, Blacktown Leisure Centre Stanhope, Charlie Lowles Leisure Centre Emerton, seasonally at Mount Druitt and Riverstone swimming centres. We are seeking motivated and enthusiastic individuals who share a passion for swimming and water safety to join our Aqua Learn to Swim team.

Learn to Swim Instructors are responsible for the delivery of our award winning Aqua Learn to Swim Program. Our team of dedicated instructors will embrace the Aqua Learn to Swim philosophy of providing a safe, rewarding and educational experience to all students. We offer Instructors casual and flexible hours including after school, weekends and school holidays, as well as access to discounts for programs and services across the 5 aquatic and leisure centres.

If you do not hold a current Austswim, Swim Australia or Royal Life Saving Society Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety qualification, you may be eligible to undertake the Blacktown Key Venues Aqua Learn to Swim Training Program.

Position purpose:

The role includes:

  • Delivery of an award winning learn to swim program that currently cater to over 7000 students across the 5 aquatic and leisure centres
  • Provide consistent and exceptional customer services and support to our students and their families during their learn to swim journey
  • Time Management of class programming and meeting program outcomes
  • Attend scheduled in service training and team meetings for ongoing professional development
  • Promote the importance of swimming and water safety through the Aqua Learn to Swim program to our diverse community members.

Qualifications and experience

Essential:

  • Ability to complete the Blacktown Key Venues Aqua Learn to Swim Teacher internal training program if not currently accredited through the Austswim, Swim Australia and/or Royal Life Saving Society learn to swim teacher training program(s)
  • Current CPR Certificate
  • Excellent oral communication
  • Excellent customer service
  • Current Working with Children Check.

Desirable:

  • Austswim Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety, Swim Australia, Royal Life Saving Society, or similar standard
  • Current First Aid
  • Pool Lifeguard Award or similar standard
  • Oxygen Equipment Certificate
  • Coaching/teaching experience
  • Teacher extension courses including infant and preschool, adults, access and inclusion and competitive strokes
  • Current class C driver’s licence
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation/regulations.

Remuneration and benefits

The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Blacktown City Council’s Enterprise Agreement.

  • Entry level for this role starts at $31.5079 per hour plus 25% casual loading
  • Penalty rates apply for weekend shifts
  • Employee benefits such as leave entitlements (where applicable), 12% employer contribution payable to your nominated superannuation fund, Fitness Passport, gym membership discounts, and social clubs.

This position has been identified as child related work, in accordance with the Child Protection (Working with Children) Regulation 2013.
