Wheelchair Rugby Australia (WRA) is the governing body in Australia responsible for the development and growth of wheelchair rugby. The Position
The Wheelchair Rugby Australia Internship provides students with work experience in the sport industry field. During the internship, the successful candidate will support the functions of WRA’s Media and Marketing Strategy delivering social media, marketing and PR initiatives for the organisation, the Australian Steelers and Miners teams and our major events. This role is ideal for individuals with a background in marketing and communications, providing an opportunity to apply creative skills while gaining valuable experience in event marketing operations. They will learn about:
- Media and marketing for sport, including social media and community management, media release creation and distribution, graphics creation and other marketing initiatives
- Organisational and team-based media and promotions
Key Responsibilities
- Aid in the curation, creation, and implementation of social media content and reporting
- Assist in developing and distributing communications to stakeholders, including newsletters, updates, and media releases
- Support the coordination of marketing event operations for the National League and World Challenge, including:
- Results management and communications
- Venue operations for media calls and promotional campaigns
- Social media and website updates
- Attend the 2026 Santos Wheelchair Rugby World Challenge and support event delivery (all travel covered by WRA)
Key Selection Criteria
Essential
- Studying communications, marketing, or sport management, or equivalent
- Desire to learn more about the Australian sports media industry
- Strong written and oral communication skills supported by interpersonal skills
- Strong computer and IT skills
- Ability to work in a team environment and autonomously with competence, integrity, and efficiency
- Excellent presentation and group training skills
- Must be an Australian Citizen / Permanent Resident or already have the appropriate working rights in Australia to be considered for this position
- Working with Children Check
Desirable
- Available for weekend and weeknight work when required (for example, for competition and game days)
- Proficiency in graphic design tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.), or similar
- Experience in creating and managing digital content for social media platforms
- Knowledge and understanding of the Australian sports industry
- Driver’s license
