The Opportunity

Work in partnership with council leadership, the community and other levels of government on the delivery of key Sport and Olympics planning and project delivery within the Sport and Active Lifestyle team.

About the Role

  • Play a key role in developing, leading and coordinating Noosa Council’s Olympics and Paralympics readiness planning, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities while helping guide key projects, partnerships, and initiatives that support sport, community readiness and wellbeing, accessibility, and long-term legacy outcomes.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, community groups, sporting bodies and government agencies to help position Noosa as a preferred pre-event training destination, support infrastructure and facility planning, and explore potential grant funding opportunities that advance both Olympic-related and broader sport and active recreation goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and delivery of Noosa Council’s Readiness Plan for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, ensuring strong collaboration across leadership, internal teams, community stakeholders, and government partners.
  • Provide specialist advice on Olympic-related projects and sport initiatives, ensuring alignment with internal strategies and broader state and federal agendas, and integrating these with Council’s ongoing sport and recreation priorities.
  • Balance Olympic readiness responsibilities with broader sport and active recreation programs across the Shire, including club capacity building, accessibility improvements, and community-focused infrastructure planning.
  • Identify, pursue, and manage grant funding opportunities that support strategic outcomes, facility enhancements, and long-term legacy benefits.
  • Develop and implement strategies that position Noosa as a preferred pre-event training destination, including supporting cross-departmental initiatives and infrastructure scoping for high-performance sport requirements.
  • Engage with community, sporting, and industry stakeholders to inform facility planning, investment decisions, and legacy opportunities, fostering strong and productive partnerships.
  • Initiate and lead Council’s internal Olympic Working Group, managing governance tasks such as Terms of Reference, agendas, meetings, minutes, and providing clear updates and recommendations to senior staff and internal stakeholders.

Vacancy Details

  • Department: Community Services
  • Branch: Sport and Active Lifestyle

  • Position Remuneration: Level 5 ($96,756.50 base annual salary)

About You

You are an experienced sport, recreation, or major-event planning professional who brings a strategic mindset and a passion for delivering community-centred outcomes. You excel in multi-stakeholder environments and are confident engaging with internal departments, government agencies, sporting bodies, and local community organisations to drive collaborative projects and long-term legacy initiatives.

You have strong project management skills, with the ability to balance competing priorities, manage ambiguity, and progress multiple programs of work simultaneously. Your communication and relationship-building strengths allow you to influence, guide and support stakeholders at all levels, while your presentation and public-speaking skills enable you to clearly articulate plans, insights, and recommendations.

You understand the frameworks and opportunities associated with the Olympic and Paralympic movement, including overall shire readiness, accessibility, legacy planning, and pre-event training requirements. You are also adept at identifying and securing grant funding to support facility upgrades, community outcomes and strategic initiatives.

Known for your proactive approach, organisational skills and commitment to positive community impact, you thrive in roles that combine strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and on-the-ground delivery. You work collaboratively, uphold council values, and are motivated to help position Noosa for success leading into Brisbane 2032 and beyond.

  • Tertiary qualifications in Sport and Recreation, Project or Event Management, Business Management, Community Development or other relevant field and/or proven substantial experience in delivering projects within the sport, infrastructure and community space.
