Wrestling Australia is seeking a highly capable and motivated Participation Project Lead to drive critical initiatives that will shape the future growth and sustainability of wrestling across Australia.

This is a unique, short-term project opportunity to make a meaningful national impact, strengthening participation systems, informing strategic direction, and laying the foundations for long-term growth aligned to Australia’s national sport participation strategy, Play Well.

About Wrestling Australia

Wrestling Australia is the National Sporting Organisation responsible for the governance, development and growth of wrestling across the country.

The organisation leads Olympic disciplines including Freestyle, Women’s and Greco-Roman Wrestling, alongside emerging formats such as Beach Wrestling, SAMBO and Indigenous styles. Through national leadership and collaboration with states, clubs and partners, Wrestling Australia is committed to building a strong, inclusive and sustainable participation ecosystem.

Supported by the Australian Sports Commission, Wrestling Australia plays a key role in delivering participation outcomes aligned to Australia’s national sport strategy.

The Opportunity

This newly created contract role has been established by the Wrestling Australia Board to deliver priority participation initiatives within a defined project period.

Reporting directly to the Chair of the Board, you will operate with autonomy and purpose, leading key projects that will strengthen participation capability, generate critical national insights, and position the sport for sustained growth.

By June 2026, your work will directly influence Wrestling Australia’s participation strategy, systems and future investment priorities.

Key Responsibilities

This role is responsible for delivering the key participation insights, systems and strategic foundations required to support the sustainable growth of wrestling in Australia.

  • Lead National Participation Insights Design and deliver a national participation survey and translate findings into clear insights to inform Board decision-making and future investment.
  • Develop a National Participation Plan Framework Build a structured Participation Plan aligned to the Play Well strategy, providing clear recommendations and a roadmap for sustainable growth.
  • Strengthen Participation Systems and Capability Establish fit-for-purpose systems and processes to support effective participation tracking, coordination and long-term development.
  • Support Accreditation and Capability Development Oversee delivery of coaching and referee accreditation programs to strengthen capability across the sport.
  • Provide Strategic Reporting and Project Delivery Deliver clear reporting to the Board and Australian Sports Commission, ensuring outcomes are documented and positioned for ongoing impact.

About You

You are an experienced sport administrator or project lead who can quickly build momentum, engage stakeholders and deliver meaningful outcomes within defined timelines.

You bring:

  • Demonstrated experience in sport administration, participation and/ or development environments
  • Proven project management capability, delivering outcomes within fixed timeframes
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and align diverse groups
  • The ability to translate data and insights into clear, practical actions
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to operate independently
  • Sound understanding of community sport systems and participation pathways in Australia

Experience working with National Sporting Organisations, state bodies or participation programs will be highly regarded.
