Description

The General Manager is responsible for leading the strategic direction, operations and commercial performance of the Mornington Peninsula Football Netball League (MPFNL). Reporting directly to the MPFNL Board, the role provides leadership across all aspects of the League’s activities, including football and netball competitions, governance and compliance, commercial partnerships, financial performance, and stakeholder engagement. The General Manager ensures the League delivers high quality competitions, maintains strong governance standards and drives sustainable growth in community sport across the region. As the senior executive of the organisation, the General Manager works closely with the Board, member clubs, AFL Victoria and key community stakeholders to strengthen club capability, enhance the League’s reputation and identify new commercial opportunities that support the long term sustainability of the competition.

The role also oversees the planning and delivery of major League events, including the Finals Series and official functions, while promoting a culture of integrity, inclusion, safety and participation across all levels of the game.

Key Selection Criteria

The General Manager must demonstrate:

  • Proven and minimum in senior executive leadership, preferably within the sport, community, or not-for-profit sectors, demonstrating strategic and forward-thinking capabilities.
  • Passionate about community sport and wellbeing, with a commitment to driving inclusion and participation.
  • Strong understanding of the Community Football landscape, including relevant rules, regulations and governance frameworks, with the ability to interpret and apply them effectively
  • Effective strategic and operational management skills, with a demonstrated ability to deliver organisational objectives and drive results.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management and relationship-building skills across diverse sectors; collaborative and people-focused approach.
  • Demonstrated financial management, business planning and commercial acumen.
  • High-level understanding of governance, risk and compliance frameworks; ethical and transparent in decision-making.
  • Strong leadership and team management capabilities, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability and resilience.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Victorian Child Safe Standards and the Reportable Conduct Scheme, with a strong commitment to upholding child safety and wellbeing in all organisational operations.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required; decisive and adaptable under pressure.
  • Current Working With Children Check.
  • Victorian Drivers Licence.

Desirable

  • Understanding of Australian football and netball structures, governance and participation pathways.
  • Experience working with volunteer-led community sporting clubs and leagues.
  • Knowledge of facility development frameworks and functional requirements
  • Experience with Local government relations and regional sport administration.
  • Experience in sponsorship, marketing or community engagement.
