Damascus College is seeking an experienced and energetic Leader of Rowing & Head Coach to drive the continued success and development of our Rowing Program. This is a unique opportunity to shape a thriving co-curricular program, mentor student-athletes and coaches, and foster a culture of excellence, teamwork and wellbeing.

The Leader of Rowing & Head Coach provides strategic leadership, operational coordination and hands-on coaching across the Damascus College Rowing Program.

With approximately 65 students across Junior, Intermediate and Senior squads, the program is well-established and poised for growth. This role is central to expanding participation, strengthening performance pathways and building a strong, connected rowing community.

You will:

  • Lead and develop the overall rowing program
  • Coach designated squads and support athlete development
  • Mentor and manage a team of volunteer coaches
  • Oversee operations, safety, logistics and equipment
  • Build strong external partnerships

Work hours and scheduling for this position will be developed in consultation with the Assistant Principal - Student Wellbeing and will vary across terms to align with the operational requirements and seasonal demands of the College’s rowing program.

The role includes early morning and after-school training sessions, as well as attendance at regattas, camps, and weekend events as required.

Outside of the rowing season, there will be opportunities to contribute to other aspects of College life.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

The successful candidate will have:

  • Demonstrated experience in rowing coaching and/or program leadership
  • Experience working with young people in education and/or sporting programs
  • Strong organisational and operational management skills
  • A commitment to student wellbeing, inclusion and child safety
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills  
  • A genuine enthusiasm for growing participation in school sport
  • Alignment with the values of a Catholic school in the Mercy tradition
