About the Role
This is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing all football and commercial operations across the whole club.
You will play a vital role in shaping the experience of players, coaches, and families across the club.
The Head of Football leads a football program that prioritises community participation and enjoyment while also providing a clear and fair development pathway for players aspiring to representative football.
The role ensures every player, regardless of ability, has a positive experience in rugby league and feels connected to the club and community.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate all football programs
- Recruit, support, and mentor coaches across all age groups
- Ensure a fun, safe, and inclusive environment for every player
- Develop and manage a clear and fair pathway
- Oversee team structures, grading, and player development
- Promote strong club culture, values, and sportsmanship
- Act as the key link between coaches, parents, and the committee
- Key contact for RLB, QRL and other stake holders
- Sponsor Coordinator
- Link between local schools and the club
- Oversee all operational duties within the club (trials, field maintenance, field closures, training times, field set up etc)
- Volunteer Coordinator
- Work with the treasurer and registrar on registrations and payments
Coaching Leadership
- Recruit and support coaches across both streams
- Ensure coaches understand the difference in approach:
- Community - inclusive, participation-first
- Pathway - development, accountability, higher standards
- Provide mentoring and development opportunities for all coaches
Player Development & Welfare
- Maintain a player-first approach across all levels
- Balance development with wellbeing - avoid early burnout or overtraining
- Ensure strong safeguarding and child safety practices
Club Culture
- Build a unified club
- Promote respect between all teams - no “A vs B team” culture
- Set expectations for positive behaviour from players, coaches, and parents
Communication & Transparency
- Clearly communicate:
- Selection criteria for Div 1 opportunities
- Expectations for commitment at each level
- Act as a key contact for resolving concerns from parents and coaches
- Provide regular updates on football programs and opportunities
Game Day & Training Oversight
- Ensure smooth operation across all teams
- Monitor coaching quality and consistency
- Attend sessions and games
Compliance & Governance
- Ensure adherence to league rules and policies
- Oversee registrations, grading, and eligibility
- Maintain child safety and risk management standards
Strategic Development
- Grow overall participation numbers
- Strengthen the club’s reputation as both:
- A welcoming community club
- A genuine pathway to representative football
- Build relationships with rep programs and governing bodies
- Work within the club strategic plan
Key Skills & Experience
- Strong understanding of junior rugby league
- Experience in coaching or football program management
- Experience/involvement with assisting a junior club operate
- Ability to manage both participation and performance priorities
- Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills
