About the role
The Equestrian Facility and Programme Manager is a key leadership position responsible for the coordination, delivery and ongoing development of Geelong Grammar School’s Equestrian Program. This role oversees horse management, coaching programs, facility operations and event coordination to ensure a safe, high-quality and enriching equestrian experience for students.
You will lead the Equestrian Centre, ensuring the wellbeing of horses, the safety of students, and the smooth running of daily operations. You will also play a central role in building the School’s profile in equestrian sport, including supporting student participation in interschool competitions and major events.
What you will be doing
- Liaise with parents for the onboarding of new horses and students
- Manage biosecurity risks relating to horses
- Manage the Equestrian Activities Assistants for the daily operations of the Centre
- Liaise with the Farm Manager on pasture management and maintenance
- Manage and be available for all horse welfare and safety
- Manage and roster staff for feeding all horses
- Arena management for student sport and activities as required
- Organise vet, farrier and other allied providers and supervise as needed
- Coordinate and supervise student lessons as required.
- Pastoral support of students in the Equestrian program
- Provide Equestrian Coaching and horse care guidance for students
- Organise two key events per year hosted at Werribee Park and coordinate events for outside schools
- Manage the governance of the equestrian centre
- Liaise with students, parents and visitors as required
- Complete administrative tasks relating to Equestrian Centre, equestrian as a sport, as well as standard school reporting requirements
- Manage the annual budget to ensure alignment and costs
What we are looking for
- Advanced horse husbandry
- Equestrian competition participation requirements and training for the same
- Able to coordinate and run equestrian competitions hosted by the school
- Able to coordinate equestrian coaching program for students
- Ability to handle student horses, including feeding, changing rugs, holding for vets and farriers etc, providing basic horse first aid and knowing when to call the vet
- Ability to handle complex situations, including involving horses (making sure horse welfare maintained while navigating regulations and lockdowns) or an outbreak of an equine disease
- Experience working with young people and their wellbeing
