Description

About Us

The Perth Bears are making history as the newest NRL club, joining the competition in 2027. We’re more than a sporting team, we’re building a movement that will unite fans, inspire young athletes, and create opportunities across Western Australia. By joining the Bears, you’ll play an important role in bringing our vision to life and creating something truly special for our members, partners, and community.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and visionary Head of Game Day & Events to lead the strategy, planning and delivery of the Perth Bears' game day experience and broader events portfolio.

Candidates with experience in professional sport, major events, or venue operations will be viewed favourably, particularly those with a track record of delivering engaging fan and hospitality experiences.

The successful candidate will bring a deep understanding of what creates memorable moments and will be passionate about building an authentic and compelling match day atmosphere from the ground up.

This is a unique opportunity to create the atmosphere, traditions and experiences that will define the Perth Bears for generations of fans. You'll own the club's game day strategy, lead major events and ensure every fan, member, partner and stakeholder interaction reflects our ambition to deliver a memorable and engaging sporting experience.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the strategy, planning and delivery of all Perth Bears home games and major club events.
  • Create unforgettable game day experiences, fan activations and sports presentation concepts that build club identity and atmosphere.
  • Oversee the club's annual events calendar, including member events, corporate functions, partner events, season launches, awards nights and community initiatives.
  • Manage game day and events budgets, suppliers, agencies, venues and operational delivery.
  • Lead corporate hospitality operations to ensure exceptional experiences for partners and guests.
  • Build strong relationships with stadium operators, production partners, entertainment providers, contractors and key stakeholders.
  • Drive continuous improvement through event reporting, insights and post event reviews.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience within professional sport is preferred, with a proven track record leading game day operations, major events, sports presentation, or live event delivery for a sporting club, league, venue, or major sporting organisation.
  • Proven success managing complex events involving multiple stakeholders, suppliers and operational requirements.
  • Strong commercial acumen with experience managing budgets, contracts and procurement.
  • Exceptional project management, leadership, and organisational skills, with the ability to deliver results in a fast paced, high pressure sporting environment
  • Strong understanding of fan engagement, membership experiences, sports presentation, and creating memorable game day atmospheres that strengthen club identity and supporter connection.
  • Outstanding stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • A hands-on approach and willingness to thrive in a start-up environment and is comfortable balancing strategic planning with operational delivery

Why Join Us?

This is more than a job. It's a rare opportunity to help shape the future of the Perth Bears and build the foundations of a new NRL club. As part of a start-up environment, your ideas, expertise, and leadership will directly influence the development of our players, coaches, and performance pathways.

You'll have the chance to build a best-in-class development system from the ground up and work within an ambitious, collaborative, and high performing culture. Most importantly, you'll leave a legacy on rugby league in Western Australia and help shape the next generation of Perth Bears talent.

Working in a Start-Up Environment

The Perth Bears are a start-up organisation in a critical foundation phase. Like other roles recruited to date, this position is intentionally hands-on and will initially operate with lean support structures.

The role will be fully accountable for establishing, delivering, and operating the function, while the club grows. This is not a role with layers of administration or inherited systems. You will be required to design processes, integrate technology platforms, build relationships, solve problems in real time, and deliver outcomes concurrently.

Success in this role requires comfort with ambiguity, strong personal accountability, and the ability to move seamlessly between strategic planning and day-to-day execution.

Important Information

This role is based in Perth, Western Australia and remote working opportunities are not available.

The Perth Bears are an equal opportunity employer. We value diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive workplace for all employees. We encourage applications from people of all backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and people with disability.

Please note, the Perth Bears do not accept unsolicited applications or requests for employment sent directly to the Club. Only applications submitted through the advertised channels will be considered.

Not open to recruitment agencies.
