The Canberra Raiders are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Strength & Conditioning Coach with a strong background in rehabilitation.
The successful candidate will play a vital role within the Raiders' High Performance team, working collaboratively with strength and conditioning coaches, physiotherapists, sports scientists and football staff to optimise player availability, ultimately returning injured players back to peak performance.
Working from a world-class training facility, the role will have a particular focus on rehabilitation and reconditioning of injured athletes. The successful candidate will contribute across the full rehabilitation continuum, from the early stages of reconditioning through to the player's reintegration into full training and competition.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and deliver individualised strength and conditioning programs for players undertaking rehabilitation and return-to-play programs in collaboration with multiple stakeholders.
- Work closely with physiotherapists and medical staff to ensure rehabilitation programs are aligned with criteria based return to play benchmarks.
- Develop and implement modified training programs for injured or restricted athletes.
- Assist in the transition process of athletes from rehabilitation into full team training.
- Contribute to the ongoing development of the club's rehabilitation and return-to-performance systems and processes.
- Strong communication skills with all stakeholders.
- Assist with the physical preparation and ongoing development of the wider NRL playing squad when required.
- Assist with physical testing, profiling and monitoring of players throughout the season.
- Contribute to a positive, professional and high-performance environment that prioritises player development, availability and performance.
About You
The successful candidate will be an experienced Strength & Conditioning Coach who's passion lies in the return to play area.
You will have a strong understanding of the physical demands of professional rugby league and the ability to translate rehabilitation objectives into progressive, sport-specific physical preparation programs, delivering the athlete ready to perform.
You will be a highly collaborative practitioner who can operate effectively within an integrated medical and performance environment. You will be comfortable working with athletes throughout the rehabilitation process and communicating clearly with performance, medical and football staff.
You will demonstrate:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Exercise/Sport Science, Strength & Conditioning or a related discipline.
- Appropriate professional accreditation, preferably ASCA accreditation or equivalent.
- Demonstrated experience working in an elite or professional sporting environment.
- Strong experience in rehabilitation, reconditioning and return-to-play.
- Sound knowledge of strength, power, speed and conditioning qualities.
- Strong understanding of running mechanics and running progressions.
- Strong understanding of workload management and athlete monitoring.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, working collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
Desirable Experience
Experience within an elite team-sport environment will be highly regarded.
