Tasmania is home to a burgeoning sports industry, from brands representing the Map on a national and global state, to grassroots clubs that make our communities tick. In a first of its kind in Australia, a coalition of the State’s biggest sports are uniting to establish a dedicated pathway for local and aspiring sports administration, game development, coaching and leadership talent.

Introducing the Tasmania Academy of Leadership and Sport (TALS), a home-grown initiative led by the Tasmania Football Club, in partnership with TasTAFE (RTO 60142), Tasmania JackJumpers, Hobart Hurricanes and Netball Tasmania to nurture the State’s next generation of talent within the local sports industry.

Your Opportunity

This is not your average teaching role, build your own legacy inside the four walls of Tasmania's elite sports industry and shape the next generation of workforce talent. Are you an experienced leader or manager within the sports industry? Do you have a passion for educating the next generation of leaders in conjunction with some of Tasmania’s most well-known sporting brands? 

The Role

As Educator for the Tasmania Academy of Leadership and Sport, you will support quality learning for students who are interested in pursuing a career in sports administration, game development, coaching and leadership roles.

This will involve delivering an accelerated diploma level curriculum focusing on leadership, management and sport. Creating training programs and evaluating student performance along with providing effective feedback and guidance to industry leaders of the future.

To be successful in this role, you will require strong educational delivery and communication skills, as you will be working closely with students, industry partners and our education partner, TasTAFE. A strong understanding of the relevant sporting industry is required, as well as experience in developing, contextualising and delivering training programs.

You will play an integral role in the student journey from enquiry to graduation and supporting learners through work integrated learning opportunities with our network of partner sporting organisations.

You will be responsible for keeping up to date with the latest trends and developments in leadership and management and the sports industry and sharing this knowledge with your students and colleagues. 

You will also support the development, diversification and growth of the program across Tasmania.

This position is based in Hobart and reports to the Education Program Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Display teaching competence and a commitment to a student-centred learning approach.
  • Plan, lead and manage effective teaching and learning within classroom, workplace, simulated and online learning environments with a focus on student engagement, progression and success.
  • Utilise flexible, blended and inclusive learning techniques, options and products which are responsive to various student cohorts. 
  • Design, develop, contextualise and implement assessment tools and processes that meet industry standards.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities to enhance the quality of training and assessment provided to students.
  • Develop effective working relationships with students, TasTAFE, industry partners and staff by participating in meetings, student events and forums, inviting feedback and engaging in reflection.
  • Ensure that students adopt and practice accepted safety procedures in the learning and assessment environment.
  • Support learners through work integrated learning opportunities with our network of partner sporting organisations.
  • Contribute to planning, design, development, implementation and review of educational programs.
  • Participate in relevant professional learning activities to develop and maintain currency of personal and professional skills, knowledge and attitudes for both industry and learning, teaching and assessment. 
  • Undertake general administration duties including monitoring of student attendance, facilitating access to TasTAFE educational support services and providing effective feedback and advice. 

How you will be assessed

Within the context of the role description above, the ideal applicant will be someone who has the following key capabilities: 

  1. Expertise in Training: Strong knowledge of national training packages and accredited courses, with the ability to support competency development while effectively addressing industry and individual needs.
  2. Innovative Learning Management: Proven experience in best practices for managing teaching and learning activities, including the design of industry-relevant, flexible, and technology-enhanced training solutions.
  3. Initiative, Relationships and Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to take initiative, build great relationships, self-manage, and work collaboratively, with well-developed interpersonal and communication skills to effectively manage and promote change.
  4. Commitment to Professional Development: A strong dedication to self-improvement, focusing on staying current with contemporary industry standards and teaching practices, as well as utilising educational technologies and Learning Management Systems to enhance learning experiences.
  5. Sports Industry Experience: Substantial professional experience across various roles in the sports industry, coupled with a passionate commitment to shaping the future workforce in Tasmania’s sports sector.

Mandatory Requirements 

Applicants must possess the following:

  • TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or higher-level qualification in adult vocational education;
  • Vocational competencies or higher-level qualifications in the following industry areas;
    • Sport
    • Leadership
    • Management
  • Current industry skills and experience directly relevant to the training and assessment being provided;
  • Current knowledge and skills in education, training and learning that informs the training and assessment provided;
  • Working with vulnerable people (including children) registration. 
  • Current Driver’s license; and
  • National Police Check.
