BACKGROUND

Athletics South Australia (ASA) is responsible for the management, promotion and growth of athletics throughout the state. ASA is a not for profit, community focused organisation offering programs and competition structures that cater for athletes from recreational participants, right through to the elite. Its competition offerings include a range of events annually covering track and field meets in the summer and road running, cross country running, and race walking during the winter.

ASA is the peak body for athletics in South Australia. The organisation is a state member association of Athletics Australia and works closely with other state member associations.  It has 19 affiliated clubs.

ASA is entering into a Management Agreement with the City of Salisbury, owner of the Bridgestone Athletics Centre (BAC).

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Position Purpose
The purpose of this role is to manage the operation of the BAC, coordinating school and community events and supporting user groups and licensees to deliver an inclusive and enjoyable customer experience.

Key Deliverables

The Centre Manager is responsible for key organisational functions below:

  • Be the principal point of contact, represent and manage the interface between user groups, licencees (Clubs), stakeholders, City of Salisbury and community members in accordance with our Management Agreement.
  • Together with the CEO develop and implement a business plan that maximises the activation of the BAC and delivers services on an annual agreed budget.
  • Ensure the successful operation of activities including the kiosk/canteen for school and club activity, sponsorship sales and servicing, venue bookings and usage, working with other ASA team members where appropriate.
  • Manage and oversee all day-to-day activities of the BAC including all bookings, coordination associated with school carnivals and events, and encompassing staff recruitment and management, venue set-up/pack-down, safety and compliance, stock management, systems and account management to meet venue and kiosk/canteen demand.
  • Maintain high levels of customer service when engaged with suppliers, stakeholders, staff and customers.
  • Monitor the function, operations and financial performance of the BAC, providing periodic reports and meeting regularly with the CEO to review operations and address any issues that need attention.
  • Ensure the BAC is cleaned, maintained and operated to the required standards for athletics and other uses as agreed.

Work Health and Safety

  • Ensure the health and safety of all staff and customers, and compliance with applicable laws.
  • Observe and comply with all ASA health and safety policies and procedures
  • Keeping bench tops, floors, refrigerators, and all equipment clean and serviceable
  • Using best practice hygiene in food storage, handling, and preparation
  • Follow safe work practices with particular attention to manual handling and safe operating procedures
  • Report any identified hazards, incidents including near misses or injuries which arise in the course of work

Communications

  • Seek feedback regularly from BAC hirers, key stakeholders, and participants.
  • Attend City of Salisbury meetings as and when required.
  • Work with other ASA staff to identify opportunities to promote the BAC and events.

General Duties

  • To comply with ASA Code of Conduct and all other policies and procedures adopted by ASA as varied from time to time.
  • Responsible for the purchase of goods and services as per ASA’s Delegation of Authority Matrix.
  • Undertake other duties as directed and required from time to time.

Reporting and Working Relationships

The position will report to the CEO and works closely with other Athletics SA staff. A major component of the role is to effectively liaise with the organisation’s key external stakeholders and suppliers, and engage and manage a strong group of casual team members.

Special Conditions

  • Due to the nature of the position, regular work outside of normal office hours, including weekends will be required. A flexible working arrangement, including the ability to work partially from home and time in lieu is available.
  • A current driver’s licence is highly desirable.
  • Athletics SA is a smoke free and drug free workplace.
  • Current First Aid certificate. 
  • Employees are required to undertake and have a clear Working with Children Check.

Qualifications

  • Qualifications in Venue Management, Sport and Recreation Management/Event Management or a related discipline

  • Previous experience in athletics clubs, competitions, or other sporting competitions (desirable)
  • Experience in preparing and managing budgets
  • Well-developed problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated experience in the use of Microsoft Office software, online database products and point of sale systems, cash handling including EFTPOS, cash and online
