ABOUT THE ROLE

Futsal in Australia is at a pivotal stage, with increasing participation and the need for a more structured and unified national framework. Football Australia has secured funding from the Australian Sports Commission (ASC) through the PlayWell Participation Fund to establish a dedicated Futsal Department and co-develop a National Futsal Strategy in partnership with Member Federations.

The General Manager – Futsal will recruit and lead this newly formed department, to effectively control, organise, promote, grow, and administer Futsal across Australia. This role will be instrumental in collaborating with Member Federations to establish a sustainable national framework, strengthen participation pathways, enhance coach and referee development, and integrate Futsal into the broader football ecosystem. Working closely with internal and external stakeholders, the General Manager will play a key role in delivering strategic initiatives and ensuring alignment with Football Australia’s objectives and obligations to the ASC.

This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of Futsal in Australia by leading a national approach that unites stakeholders, enhances pathways, and elevates the sport’s profile at all levels.

Please note that this role is fixed term until 9th December 2026.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

Leadership & National Administration

  • Control, organise, and administer a unified national structure for Futsal in collaboration with Member Federations.
  • Lead the co-design of the National Futsal Strategy, ensuring a structured and sustainable approach to Futsal across all levels.
  • Establish a clear governance framework that ensures national consistency and alignment with Football Australia’s broader objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with FIFA, AFC, and ASC requirements while advocating for ongoing policy and investment support.
  • Oversee the establishment and operation of a Futsal Standing Committee, providing strategic oversight and national coordination.

Implementation of PlayWell Participation Plan

  • Organise and administer the delivery of all PlayWell-funded activities, ensuring alignment with Football Australia’s objectives.
  • Work with specialist Futsal staff to execute PlayWell initiatives that promote and grow participation in Futsal.
  • Control and track PlayWell implementation outcomes, ensuring accountability and transparent reporting to the ASC.

Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Member Federations, ensuring a collaborative approach to Futsal administration in Australia.
  • In collaboration with Member Federations, engage with private futsal operators to foster partnerships and promote a unified national Futsal ecosystem.

Competition & Pathway Administration

  • Control and oversee the national competition framework, ensuring clear pathways from grassroots to elite Futsal.
  • Strengthen the National Teams’ talent identification process, supporting Australia’s international competitiveness.
  • Explore opportunities to grow and promote elite Futsal pathways, including potential integration with national football competitions.

Coach & Referee Development

  • Organise and promote national coaching and referee education programs, ensuring best-practice development pathways.
  • Ensure PlayWell-funded coach and referee development programs contribute to growing and sustaining a skilled workforce.
  • Develop strategies to increase the number and quality of accredited Futsal coaches and referees nationwide.

Commercial & Funding Opportunities

  • Collaborate with the Commercial Department to identify and pursue commercial partnerships, sponsorships, and funding opportunities to ensure Futsal’s long-term sustainability.
  • Work with government bodies to secure additional grants and investment programs beyond PlayWell funding.
  • Control and oversee a financially sustainable model for Futsal, ensuring effective investment and responsible resource management.

Marketing & Promotion

  • Promote and grow the profile of Futsal through a national marketing and communications strategy.
  • Position Futsal as an inclusive and accessible sport, engaging diverse communities across Australia.
  • Support digital and media strategies to organise and promote awareness of Futsal competitions, programs, and pathways.

Team Leadership & Department Oversight

  • Recruit and collaborate with specialist Futsal staff ensuring alignment with Football Australia’s strategic priorities.
  • Work closely with Futsal staff members to effectively control, organise, promote, grow, and administer PlayWell-funded participation activities.
  • Administer and oversee operational planning, budgeting, and reporting to ensure the effective execution of the National Futsal Strategy.

ABOUT YOU

Experience, Skills and Qualifications: 

  • Proven experience in sport management, administration, or governance.
  • Strong leadership in managing teams, strategic planning, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Ability to control, organise, promote, grow, and administer national programs.
  • Knowledge of coaching, refereeing, and participation development.
  • Experience in budget management, funding allocation, and financial sustainability.
  • Strong communication skills with experience in marketing, promotions, and digital engagement.

Additional Requirements: 

  • Full working rights in Australia
  • Working with children check (paid/employee) or state-based equivalent 
  • International Criminal History Record for each country (other than Australia) in which you have resided for 12 months or more in the last 10 years (if applicable)
  • Out of hours and weekend work as required
