An exciting opportunity is available within the Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) to lead a small, dedicated operations team that supports the QAS High Performance Managers and their respective sport programs.
As we continue our journey towards Los Angeles 2028 and Brisbane 2032, 2026 represents an important milestone. The coming year will see QAS-supported programs playing a key role in preparing athletes for the Milan-Cortina Winter Games, the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, and a range of international competitions, including World Championships.
We are seeking a motivated and experienced team leader with demonstrated capability in staff management and performance delivery. The successful candidate will ensure organisational and individual KPIs are achieved..
This role also presents a rewarding opportunity to contribute directly to the success of Queensland's elite athletes as they strive towards their performance goals. This is a temporary engagement to cover the current incumbent, who is on secondment to Commonwealth Games Australia in preparation for Glasgow 2026.
Some of your responsibilities will include:
- Provide leadership, guidance, and management support to the High-Performance Operations team, ensuring effective resource allocation, prioritisation, and adherence to quality standards, while delivering expert advice and support to the Executive Director, High Performance Managers, QAS staff, coaches, athletes, and stakeholders on the development, implementation, and sustainability of QAS High Performance Programs and operations.
- Manage a small team of staff to provide quality support services to coaches, athletes and sporting organisations to ensure the effective and efficient organisation of travel requirements, equipment purchases, coordinating the procurement of lowvalue assets, monitoring athlete agreement acceptance and compliance and coordinating annual athlete medical screenings.
- In conjunction with the High-Performance Managers, attend meetings and develop strong relationships with sports and other stakeholders to identify areas for improvement and to effectively address issues to contribute to the effective and efficient operations of each of the high-performance program.
- Establishing and operationalising high performance program projects and initiatives (e.g. sport launches, QAS Welcome for new athletes, athlete tracker board meetings, sport program meetings). Ensuring information is high standard, timely and informative.
