Description

Help Shape the Future of One of Australia's Leading Community Sporting Organisations

Manly Gymnastics is seeking exceptional individuals to join its Board as Independent Non-Executive Directors.

Manly Gymnastics is one of Australia's largest and most successful gymnastics clubs, delivering programs to thousands of participants each year across recreational, developmental and competitive pathways. As we continue to grow and pursue our vision for a future Gymnastics Centre of Excellence, we are seeking experienced leaders who can contribute strategic expertise and help guide the organisation through its next chapter.

About Our Board

Our Board is comprised of highly engaged, motivated and accomplished professionals who share a commitment to excellence, community impact and the long-term success of the Club.

This is not a ceremonial board position.

Our Directors actively contribute their expertise, challenge thinking, support strategic initiatives and provide robust governance oversight. Board members are expected to prepare thoroughly, participate constructively and make meaningful contributions both inside and outside the boardroom.

We are seeking Directors who are motivated by impact, not remuneration.

All Director positions are voluntary and unpaid.

We are seeking individuals who are energised by working alongside other high-performing leaders and who are motivated by the opportunity to create lasting impact for young people, families and the wider community.

Priority Capability Areas

As part of our ongoing Board renewal and succession planning, we are particularly interested in candidates with senior leadership experience in one or more of the following areas:

Legal, Risk and Governance

We are particularly interested in candidates with legal qualifications and experience who can strengthen the Board's governance, risk management and regulatory oversight capabilities.

Relevant experience may include:

Candidates with experience in the not-for-profit, sporting, education, community or government sectors will be highly regarded.

  • Practising solicitor, barrister or in-house counsel
  • Corporate, commercial, employment or not-for-profit law
  • Governance and board advisory roles
  • Regulatory compliance and policy development
  • Enterprise risk management and assurance
  • Child safety, safeguarding and integrity frameworks
  • Audit, assurance or governance advisory experience
  • Experience advising boards, executive teams or complex organisations

Government Relations and Public Funding

  • Local, State or Federal Government engagement
  • Public policy, advocacy and stakeholder relations
  • Government grants and funding programs
  • Community and civic engagement
  • Experience working within government agencies, councils, sporting organisations or public-sector institutions

Marketing, Brand and Growth

We are seeking candidates with experience in marketing, brand leadership and organisational growth who can help strengthen Manly Gymnastics' market position, reputation and long-term sustainability.

Relevant experience may include:

  • Brand strategy and market positioning
  • Membership, customer or participant growth strategies
  • Sales and business development
  • Customer acquisition and retention
  • Digital marketing and audience growth
  • Corporate communications and public relations
  • Media relations and reputation management
  • Community engagement and stakeholder communications
  • Consumer marketing, customer experience or membership-based organisations

Candidates who have successfully led growth initiatives, expanded customer or membership bases, or built strong consumer-facing brands will be highly regarded.

While these are our current priority capability areas, we welcome expressions of interest from exceptional candidates who believe they can make a significant contribution to the Board's effectiveness and strategic direction.

What We Are Looking For

Successful candidates will demonstrate:

  • Senior leadership experience and professional credibility
  • Strategic thinking and sound judgement
  • Strong governance and ethical decision-making capabilities
  • A collaborative and constructive approach to leadership
  • The ability to contribute expertise beyond formal board meetings
  • A genuine commitment to community sport and youth development

Previous board experience is valued but not essential. We welcome candidates who are looking to make their first contribution at board level and who bring specialist expertise aligned with our strategic priorities.

Time Commitment

Directors are expected to:

  • Attend Board meetings held approximately every six weeks
  • Participate in strategic planning and governance activities
  • Contribute to relevant committees, working groups or special projects where appropriate
  • Act as ambassadors for Manly Gymnastics within the community and their professional networks

Why Join Manly Gymnastics?

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to an organisation that is both ambitious and community-focused.

As an Independent Non-Executive Director, you will work alongside a capable and committed Board, influence major strategic decisions, support the future development of gymnastics on Sydney's Northern Beaches and help create opportunities that will benefit generations of athletes, children and families.

You will also have the opportunity to contribute to one of the most significant periods in the Club's history as we pursue long-term growth and the development of a future Centre of Excellence.
