About Us
The Perth Bears are making history as the newest NRL club, joining the competition in 2027. We’re more than a sporting team, we’re building a movement that will unite fans, inspire young athletes, and create opportunities across Western Australia. By joining the Bears, you’ll play an important role in bringing our vision to life and creating something truly special for our members, partners, and community.
The Opportunity
We’re looking for an organised, approachable People & Culture Advisor to support our growing team across the employee lifecycle. This is a hands-on opportunity for an HR professional with practical experience across people administration and coordination who is looking to broaden their generalist capability in a varied and supportive environment.
Working closely with the Head of People, Culture & Operations, you’ll help coordinate recruitment, onboarding, employee records, people systems and culture initiatives. You’ll also provide practical first level support to employees and leaders, with guidance available for more complex matters. It’s a varied role where you can learn quickly, build broad generalist experience and help shape the foundations of a new NRL club.
What You’ll Do
- Coordinate end-to-end recruitment and onboarding, including communication, pre-employment checks, employment contracts and inductions.
- Support day-to-day employee lifecycle processes, including probation reviews, employment changes, leave administration and offboarding.
- Provide practical People & Culture support to managers, with the judgement to seek guidance on more complex matters.
- Respond to routine People & Culture enquiries and assist employees and leaders to understand policies, procedures and employment conditions, seeking guidance where required.
- Provide coordination and administrative support for employee relations, performance and workplace conduct matters.
- Maintain accurate and confidential employee records and Employment Hero data, and coordinate approved payroll changes.
- Assist with developing, reviewing and updating People & Culture policies, procedures, templates and employee resources.
- Coordinate training, mandatory compliance checks, employee check-ins and performance and development activities.
- Support employee engagement, wellbeing, recognition and inclusion initiatives, helping embed Perth Bears’ values and behaviours.
- Assist with people reporting, workforce data and continuous improvement across the People & Culture function.
What We’re Looking For
- A qualification in human resources, business or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- A developing knowledge of Australian employment legislation, modern awards and HR policies.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills and a friendly, service-focused approach.
- Confidence providing practical People & Culture support to managers, with the judgement to seek guidance on more complex matters.
- Strong organisation, attention to detail and discretion when handling confidential information.
- Confidence using HR systems; experience with Employment Hero is an advantage, but not essential.
- Curiosity, initiative and a willingness to pitch in.
Why Join Us?
This is a rare opportunity to grow your People & Culture career while helping build the foundations of a new NRL club. You’ll gain broad exposure across recruitment, employee experience, systems, culture and workplace relations, supported by an experienced People & Culture leader.
You’ll join an ambitious, collaborative team where your ideas are welcome, your development matters and no two days will look the same. Most importantly, your work will contribute directly to creating a positive employee experience and a lasting rugby league legacy in Western Australia.
Working in a Start-Up Environment
The Perth Bears are in a critical foundation phase. Our systems and processes are still developing, so this role will suit someone who enjoys variety, is comfortable learning as they go and is happy to roll up their sleeves.
You’ll help create and improve practical people processes, use technology effectively, build strong working relationships and contribute to day-to-day delivery. You won’t be expected to have every answer; what matters is that you ask good questions, use sound judgement and know when to seek support.
Success in this role means being adaptable, dependable and willing to balance administration with emerging advisory responsibilities as the club grows.
