The Queensland Academy of Sport’s mission is to inspire extraordinary sporting success. We recently brought this mission to life when 191 Queensland athletes proudly wore green and gold while representing Australia at the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Paris 2024 will go down in history as Australia’s best ever Games, setting the bar high for the next Olympic and Paralympic cycle. The QAS is now on a mission to deliver more medals across more sports at the Los Angeles 2028 Games, in anticipation of hosting Australia’s most successful Games in Queensland in 2032.

The QAS supports more than 500 elite athletes on their sporting journey from talented juniors to Olympians, Paralympians and World Champions. Our expert staff support athletes through in-house programs, partnerships with State and National Sporting Organisations, and individualised support for athletes on medal-winning trajectories to help them perform when it matters most.

Our ambitious high-performance strategy for the 2032 Games is to create more medal-winning moments for Queensland athletes that inspire their state and nation. Therefore, the QAS is looking for highly talented and motivated individuals whose values and behaviours align with ours, to join our QAS Team.

Reporting to the Executive Director of High Performance Programs, we're seeking a Senior High Performance Manager.

The roles and responsibilities include:

  • Directly line manage, mentor and support a team of High Performance Managers by setting clear direction and accountability to ensure systematic and impactful practices are implemented when working with sports and athletes.
  • Directly manage a small portfolio of sport programs and facilitate strong and productive partnerships with National Sporting Organisations (NSO’s), State Sporting Organisations (SSO’s) and QAS to monitor and accelerate the delivery of sports High Performance plans.
  • Provide direction and support to the Executive Director, High Performance Programs, High Performance Managers (HPMS), QAS staff, coaches, athletes and other internal and external partners on developing, implementing and sustaining QAS High Performance Programs processes and operations to optimise medal winning success.
  • Create a collaborative environment and facilitate open, consistent, and honest communication between the High Performance Programs team, wider QAS and system partners in relation to progress against the QAS 2032 Strategy as well as each Sport Programs objectives
  • Provide high quality advice, support and direction to Sports, including:
    • Assist in the recruitment and management of QAS program coaches, overseeing development, performance reviews, and professional development.
    • Track athletes' progress, offering proactive and strategic solutions for high-performance challenges and ensure programs achieve outcomes efficiently, aligning resources with athlete needs.
    • Work with the QAS data team to leverage data for informed decision-making.
    • Manage sport operational budgets, travel and annual planning and conduct yearly sport reviews to pinpoint issues and opportunities, offering actionable recommendations.
  • Lead and manage QAS Performance Support staff across sports, ensuring optimal athlete support and high performance outcomes by:
    • Facilitating performance team and athlete tracker meetings to assess athlete progress, optimise training, and invest resources effectively for maximum impact and directing performance teams to unite their expertise and foster goal-driven collaboration for desired performance results.
